Hello, I've a nyos quantum 220 protein skimmer, which started working today but I've been struggling to adjust it. It's roughly submerged under 21 cm of water and it's adjusted not to overskim, but micro bubbles are coming out of the skimmer.
Is it normal at the beginning? What can I do?
Thanks!

I’m not particularly familiar with that skimmer, at least not from personal use, but skimmers usually take a break in period before they run how they’re supposed to. Let it run for a few days and see what happens.

Patience let it break in, maybe remove the lid, or use the drain line so it flows back into the sump.

Micro bubbles are usually pretty common during break in and with some skimmers, even after break in. Check out youtube as there are a few good videos that show setup and break in of your skimmer so you can compare as to your current situation. More than likley you are just experiencing normal break in.

I have both the 120 and 160 Nyos, both needed lengthy break in periods; both had micro bubbles coming out the exhaust and lots of overflow. I raised mine higher using egg-crate layers quite a bit and gradually lowered them to the proper level over about 10-14 days. Both worked fine after that. Have to assume the 220 is the same.

Thank you all for the replies. It’s just waiting time.. It’s slowly getting to the point now!

Were they noisy at the beginning?

It took some days, but once it broke in the micro bubbles stopped and it became silent.

Thanks for asking!

I have to re open this thread I’ve been running the Nyos 220 for a week and it’s been just over flowing at the lowest setting my tank just finished cycling I did a huge water change and today starting a diatom bloom and this skimmer just keeps over flowing

The same happened with me. I managed to close the air screw the best I could without compromising the “bubble-making”, so it stopped overflowing. But it took at least 2 weeks to star working properly.

Olá Gonçalo .

How is your skimmer performing? I am looking at this same model for my tank but would like to know your opinion on:

How silent is it? This is a key requirement for me as the tank is in the living room

How hard is it to remove the cup? Have heard some comments about being very hard to remove the cup.

How often do you clean the neck and how efficient does it remain between cleaning? I can only clean it once every 5 days and found that with my Deltec at the end of 2 or 3 days it would simply stop skimming as the inside of the neck got covered in muck. I bought an automatic neck cleaner to solve it but am wondering how does the Nyos work without one.

Obrigado!

Olá,

It's a great skimmer, it's really silent! I also have it in the living room, with the cabinet doors open and have no problem with the skimmer noise.

The cup is easily removable, it just can't be tightened too much, but haven't had any problem with it.

I usually clean it once per week, but I think it performs best until the 4th-5th day, so you won't have any problems with it. It actually keeps skimming after 4-5 days, but not with the same intensity.. I would say one week is the maximum it can hold, both in terms of performance and the capacity of the cup.

Other than that, I can tell you that I've already disassembled and cleaned the skimmer, and after that I had any problem with fine-tuning it, just adjusted the water level inside the skimmer and it readily started skimming again.

De nada!

Muito obrigado! Really helpful. I love my Vertex automatic neck cleaner so I may try to re-purpose it for the Nyos if I end up going that route.

That's a great idea! I would love to see how you did that, that's something I've already considered..

I would say you need to raise it
