This is very confusing. The foxface is very ill, and the other fish are showing acute symptoms as well. I'm hampered by needing to try and diagnose this remotely. If they were my fish, I would do a skin scrape and look at the sample under a microscope and know pretty well what is going on here. Since I can't do that, I'm stuck guessing, and I HATE guessing with other people's fish.....

If I had to make a determination between flukes, bacteria or protozoans, I would say this is a protozoan infection. Now, between ich or velvet or Brooklynella? I think it is either advanced ich or velvet. In either case, since hypo failed, I think you need to consider another treatment. Copper is the best choice, but only if you have a treatment tank. Chloroquine, if you can get some quickly, is an option, but it will kill any invertebrates and algae...but it can be dosed in your DT. Hypo, you've been down that road already.....

Trouble is the fish are so big and it’s in my main tank only thing I have is a eel I would have to take out to do whole tank I have a kilo of CP but have no idea on dosage

I have had a red breasted wrasse died yesterday it was normal no signs of anything on screen along with a golden hawk I need to Do something and understand you are not and it’s hard to diagnose but I’m at my wits end I with everything. I really appreciate your advice and help Carl

What would be the dosage for CP I have alot of it I bought over a year ago never used it because no can tell me the dosage for my tank with sump should be 550 gallons, only thing I have in there is a hermit crab and zebra eel besides fish. Thanks Carl also uv light needs to be off with protein skimmer if I use CP? Zebra can it tolerate the CP?

The eel should be fine with CP. The hermit crab, maybe not. UV must be turned off during CP treatment, don't use any carbon or other chemical filtrants. I run the skimmer, but with the collection cup not trapping anything - this helps with continued oxygenation. The best dose for CP is a bit unclear. I have ranges from 8 to 20 mg/l. There was recent studies this summer by the Shedd Aquarium that shows that bacteria convert CP to a non-helpful form over a short time. The trouble is that my way to measure CP (using a UV spectrophotometer) cannot tell active from inactive CP. Therefore, I have no way to tell how long it actually remains active in an aquarium. I would dose it at 15 mg/l. You need to know the actual volume of the tank, including the sump. If your tank holds 550 gallons, the calculation would be: 550 times 15 divided by 266. This works out to be 31 grams of CP, assuming no binders in with it (some CP for oral human doses have binders in it). This is a lot of CP. You need to double check my dose. In my article, I give full instructions for dosing it, you should use that to recalculate the dose, just to ensure you get the same 31 gram number!

only one dose and for how many days before turning uv back on etc....I also have 6 tablets 500 mgs prescription ones from drug store along with 1 kilo from fish medicine company, so CP will be better than copper in your opinion. Thanks for putting up with me

The human CP likely has excipients in it, as I said, that dose would need to be adjusted. The fish pharmacy CP is likely 100% active. Is it in date though?
I prefer copper over CP, but I used to use it quite a lot back in the 1970s.
Wrasses may be sensitive, but this lower dose should be ok. How long the dose remains is an unknown, as I explained. It should be good for two weeks. You will need to change the water if you redose.

I would do a good water change prior to the redose, just to be safe. At least 30%

Well, that isn't good at all.
Can you post a video?
Are you confident that you got the dose correct?
How is the eel? They are pretty resistant to protozoans, so if it is looking o.k., I'd be more inclined to think it is protozoans and not the CP causing this mortality.

Have you looked up Uronema? It is one of the diseases that will stay in a tank forever while causing fin rot, sores, and quick death.

It does look like an active ich infection. Certainly the clown and the goldflake have it really severely. I cannot tell you though, why some of the fish seem unaffected. By this point in the infection, with some of the fish dying, I would expect all of the fish to be sick. It may be that some of your fish, being long term captive, have built up some resistance to this.

Definitely monitor the ammonia level in the tank, that can rise after a CP treatment.

Emperor Angel looks better along with my orange shoulder tang have last question hopefully, should I redone after 11 days or 14 days. Its funny my bat fish is usually the first one that gets it, Again I cant thank you enough. The info you given me is priceless!!!!!
