28G nano. Removed flame hawk. Was aggressive. Removed blenny, gorgeous but always hidden so not worth the load given my limited space. What remains - 2 tiny snowflake clowns. 1 yellow watchman goby. 1 pistol shrimp. Cleaner shrimp. 5 snails 1 fighting conch 2 scarlet hermits.

Would like something active in the water column that’s colorful. And not aggressive.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Pygmy wrasse, one of the many cardinalfish, or an agile chromis would probably be great additions!

I do find the pajama cardinals hilarious but I don’t have the room to get a school and have read it’s best not solo ? Pygmy looks beautiful!

Wow wow wow

Cardinals are just fine alone, sometimes with multiples they will actually fight until you only have a pair or one left. I keep a single banggai in my tank and would like another but don’t want to worry about making sure I get one of the opposite sex.

My other concern was how big they get. I am planning on a larger tank soonish. But how quick do they grow? Still ok to grab a 1” for a 28?

Try an orchid dottyback! Dottybacks get a bad rep but the orchids are known to be the exception. I have one in my 32 gallon cube and no problems so far! Always in the water column and is a little protective of its cave but other than that he's been great

My cardinal has been a pretty slow grower and they aren’t super active swimmers so don’t need lots of space but do kind of hover around and look pretty. As clownenthusiast2017 said, dottybacks could work nicely but some can be aggressive. My favorite is the neon dottyback but I haven’t bought one because I don’t trust them with my firefish.

The main reason I’m considering a lidded tank for my upgrade. Firefish are freaking beautiful

Oh wow. Beautiful

Stop at 4/5 small fish in the 28? So many varying opinions in this hobby. Do shrimp count towards that? Yes.. I know they poop

I'd say you could get away with 5-6 smallish fish in your 28. as long as they all get along and you stay on top pf water changes and maintenance i think you could pull off 6

Thanks guys. Still working on getting a card board outline to Octo lids. Keep ****** it up.

I’ll stick with what I got for a month and research the above. Obviously would be preferred to have a lid , but I do not. And somehow there is no ready solution for the JBJ 28.

6 small fish? I like that. I do water changes regularly just out of shear “ I want to interact with my tank”

If it isn't a reef tank I may suggest a Valentini puffer aslo known as the saddleback puffer. These guys are peacful but will create lots of waste! An easier fish would be something like a royal gramma.
