Help please anyone as to what I should do to help my Aussie Gold Torch from dying. I purchased it with some recession and it’s been in my tank for about 2 months. I recently had it in a place where it was receiving a lot of flow. That made it worse I’ve moved it 3 days ago and it’s still receding looks like even more. Today looks worse then ever. Is there any supplements I can buy and use to bring it back to health. Or should I dip it in coral dip. Or just leave it. It still eats but maybe that stresses it out even more I’m not sure what to do. Any advice would help. Thankyou

Are pieces of dead flesh falling off? If so In my experience they die usually when they are in that condition. My best luck has been with removing to a container with a few drops of iodine per cup and blowing off the dead flesh then rinsing in a container of tank water. Repeat this several times a day and hope the flesh stops rotting. I couple this with placing them in higher than normal but not crazy high flow until the rotting has stopped. It was most likely going to be getting worse for you regardless and the high flow may have kept it from going downhill as fast. I’ve brought in lots of Ausi golds and lost many of them until I started placing new arrivals in high flow for at least a couple days.

No flesh is coming off yet. I don’t have iodine should I buy some and try that

Okay yes actually flesh is coming off. I just blew on it lightly with a baster and it’s tissue is just dissolving.

It's a goner, man. When you blasted it with the turkey baster did you see any worms fall out?
No worms at all. When I bought it 2 months ago it was already receding just kept getting worse. Hey it’s pinched into 2 heads you think I can cut off the bad side and leave the good head coral dip it and see how it does.

I tried that with one of my torches. It didn't help. My experience with torches is that once it starts to "go" its pretty much done. Very few success stories :/

Is the torch getting blasted with high water flow?
If not- what is your salinity level, Calcium reading and what type of fish do you have? (angels, puffers, etc)

It was for 2 months until I moved it about 5 days ago and since then it’s gone even more south very fast. Here’s a pic just 2 days ago

It’s gone really downhill the last 2 days. Calcium is at 450 and alk is at 9.9. Salinity is 1.025. Nitrates are 2 ppm po4 is .10.

Well I jussed dipped it and cleaned it up. I think it might be brown jelly. While cleaning it brown looking thick mucus came out of it. I’m thinking I was the downfall yesterday I fed with reef roids and target fed this guy. That was most likely what finally stressed it out enough to kill it even more should have just left it alone to get better.

Look very closely at your torch with a magnifying glass. Or zoom in with your phone and do a video. Look for very tiny bugs crawling on it. I’ve had these bugs before attack torches n frogspawn in my tank but leave hammers alone. It’s easy to miss because they’re so small. If u can spot these tiny moving dots, treat with ‘interceptor spectrum’. It’s a dog deworming treatment. In a couple of weeks they’ll be gone and your torch will grow back.

Alk just a tad high for the. 8.5-9.0

Yea I’m new reefer, my tank was using up alk pretty quickly. Just 3 weeks ago I was at 6.7. Went to local lfs talked about adding kalk. So I bought and ato and am running kalk. The bad thing about that advice was he told me to add 2 tbs which after doing my own research that saturated the ato water with kalk. I was suppose to bring my alk up with either water changes or dosing. Then run kalk once I got my desired levels, this is what I read and the correct way to do this. So the way they advised me about shot up my ph as kalk usually does and brought up my alk substantially. I’m now trying to get it back down to 9. I’ve cleaned out my ato and once at 9 will see how much alk I’m using daily and start with a low does of kalk instead of the max 2 tbs.

@vetteguy53081 whats your opinion can you read my last post. Do you think I’m on the right track. Or should I bail on running kalk and 2 part dose. My tank is small so any change swings my parameters.

I can’t see anything but dipped anyway just to be safe. I dipped for 5 min with Bauer then another 5 min back In saltwater then another dip in coral rx to help recover. Hoping that works and if there is any pest kills then and maybe it will grow again. I’m not getting my hopes up.

Sounds like you got the jist of it.
You want to make sure your calcium and alk are where you want them before starting kalkwasser in the ATO. Its not a good source of raising them, rather than keeping the parameters more stable between dosing or water changes.
Its up to you how you want to incorperate replenishing of elements, but i would start a 2 part dosing after daily consistant testing and developing your consumption trend.
The kalk in the ATO is just helping out with the swings.

So @Saltyreef it’s either one or the other though right. So now I cleaned out my ato. I was going to buy B-ionic 2 part unless you can recommend something else. But why should I not even start kalk again and just consistent test find out consumption and dose 2 part ? That’s my end goal dosing 2 part. Also will dosing 2 part by hand be okay. Which one is gunna keep my nano tank more stable ?

Its not one or the other you should be doing both if you want to run kalk.
Dosing is whats going to be replenishing your elements. Think of kalk as a very minor supplementation to this to help with the alk and calcium drops between dosing or water changes. I dose two part and run kalk in my top off both together. I just have established my tanks consumption trend which is about .3dkh per day so i can dose accordingly.
Bionic is fine two part. I use randys DIY recipie myself.
Before you do anything you need to test and get your consumption trend going.

Okay @Saltyreef im sorry for the redundancy, what’s the best way to get a consumption trend ? So today I’m doing a water change I’ll take test now, then every day for the next week and see the trend ? That’s it ?
