This frag of my hallucination has closed up for more than a week now. There seems to be something black encrusting it and it won't come off even by brushing it. I have tried dipping with furan 2 and hydrogen peroxide but it doesn't seem to have any effect on the frag. I have lost another frag by the same way, totally encrusting the polyps and when I tried to clean it up the polyp has already melted inside the black/brown shell. I have 3 more frags that are on the same boat. Flow is not a problem in my frag tank for the frags are not close to each other. Has someone encountered this? Any help is appreciated.

This is my hallucination frag and it is progressing each day.

Get some Revive and make it 1/4 strength of what is recommended. Get a dropper (the little dropper that comes with refractometers) and gently squirt directly into the center of the polyp. You need to try to force some of the solution into the closed up polyp just be patient and keep doing that for about 5 minutes...... I saved some polyps that were turning black that way.... It I some kind of bacterial infection I think....

Very interesting. In for some results

No problem good luck... Same thing happened to me with one of the Krakatoa frags... I did what I said above and it worked.

Have you tried a Hydrogen peroxide dip? I've had luck with this a few times with some of my zoas.

I have a whammin watermelon colony that had a huge crusted black glob in the middle of it. I broke the glob and removed what I could. It was goey inside. I dipped in bayer. It's all gone. My pink cats eye has some polyp bases that look like it has a black shadow growing on it also. I will be trying a bayer dip. I noticed that when I killed whatever was on the ww it also had some nudis. Might be nudi eggs?

Hey Duke was this a one time treatment? Or how many times per week did you do it?

You can try a chemiclean dip

Hey Pedro. Isn't that for cyano? Remember I mentioned to you I have lost 5 frags of JF bloodshots? Same thing all frags, this black encrusting shell forming on the polyp.

Just had a wild thought since this bacteria/fungus thing and I don't even know what to call it is encrusting.
Maybe use diluted vinegar? We use vinegar to clean our pumps encrusted with coraline algae and this stuff feels like coraline algae when you touch it. It might dissolve it. Just a wild thought.
Thanks for everyones suggestion and I will try all of them and see what works best then maybe someone else will benefit from it. I have 2 frags that are common that are affected and they will be the tests subjects.

Have you tried to take apicture without the blue lights or with a flash to cancel out the blue? It's hard to make out the black stuff in the picture
