Help! Prob a waste of a post since no one ever posts back to me!

Have a problem and cant figure it out. Got a torch two weeks ago. Was out full when I got it. Got home and two days later out full. Now cant get the **** thing to open all the way.. Have moved it high and low and then to front glass to back of glass. More light less light.. Then yesterday before work tried to put up by the rest of torches since the rest were are happy well now a section of the tentacles sheaded the yellow tips. Also in the corner is a 800gph powerhead. Maybe would have jolted it but was back further then the other torches that are also smaller. And ideas so flustered. Never had one this finicky. Should I label the torch as a lost coral or does it have a chance to survive?

Mine only withdraws like that when I feed it.

[h=2]Help! Torch coral! Confused![/h]

I don't know why your torch coral is confused.

I think no one gets back to you because there are so many reasons why a coral, any coral would retract, or even die.
There are just to many variables that no one knows where to start, including myself.
Sorry I can't be of more (or any) help :ranger:

Darn, atleast thank for the reply thou. Buts its not Just this post. Have posted prob 15-20 posts never a reply. Just odd.

But also now thinking the torch does open a little bit more at night to. But bot a bunch

35 or 1.026 and I use a hydrometer. Everyone says there junk and to get a refractometer. But haven found one less then 60$ just havent but the bullet

hydrometers are difficult to get an accurate reading. Bulk reef supply has refractometers with calibration solution for less then $40.

I have had alot of torches. The one thing Ive learned is this. Put it in one spot and leave it. Most of the time something will spook it after a couple days, fish nipping on it or something water wise. However moving it is only going to probably keep it closed up longer because its constantly having to adjust to the lighting and flow. I have found that my torch like it bout 4-8 inches off the sand bed (24 in deep tank) with min-med flow.

I have a swing arm hydrometer. Tank has been running for 42 years. I go to a LFS and ask them to check the water in a bag of fish I just bought, then I check it with my swing arm hydrometer and put a line on it where their reading was. Salinity does not have to be very accurate as it varies all over the place. I have LPS and SPS for many years and they are growing just fine. I just don't let them see my Swing arm hydrometer. You can keep throwing money at this hobby, but 99% of the stuff you can buy is not needed.

Amen...stick it and for-get-it! Mine are mid tank.

My swing arm hydrometer has the aforementioned markings as well....

Ok I will stick them where I want them and leave it. Just never had a torch" have five others" and never had one be so finicky. And paid a great amount for it. Not so much the money but its a living organism, hate to lose it. Wonder if my test kit could be bad. I will bring a sample to lfs and have them test it and verify. Thanks for all the help! And answers

Ok ill try turning my 800gph off for a day and see if it opens. If it does ill put a smaller one in its place. Would that be a reason for my frogspawns to not open to the full extent some days their like 8 inches other days like 5. Ive only been in hobby for a little over two years. So still learning.

If a third of the tentacles are
Gone Can the torch still live? Jut went home and turned the powerhead off. The tentacles are there but not yellow tips.
