Hello. I would appreciate some help with a RR USA Angry Bird.

I purchased a frag/nub from RRU and it arrived on Thursday without much color. I wouldn’t be as worried if it was browned out but the lack of pigment has me worried. I started it under just an ATI Blue+ with a little indirect spillover from the main light. It is now reveling about 175 par for 4 hours a day. I plan on adding a couple of hours a day and then move it to 325 par.

The picture above was just taken. It basically looks the same as when it arrived. Does anyone have any advice?

1 ATI Blue+, 1 ATI Coral+, no-name led

Phos .06
Nitrate 8
Alk 8.8
Mg 1520
Ca 410

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I've not kept that piece before but seem plenty of pretty pics.

I would reach out to RRU and get their thoughts. Was the bag & heat pack at a reasonable temp when it arrived?

Yikes, I’m not the real happy with RRU lately. I spend $2k on a pack last January with Tony and majority of the frags came in with rtn. Tony told me he would send replacements and I’m still waiting. I last reached out about 3-4 weeks ago and Tony told me his alk took a nose dive abs was gonna need a few more weeks and he’d get any other batch cut for me. So maybe this has something to do about it.

Thanks for the reply. The temperature seem to be OK. There had been some leakage in the inner bags, but the outer bags held.

I sent them a picture of the frag in the bag and he said to see how it was looking the next day. I sent him a picture of the frag the following day (Friday), and asked for any suggestions. I haven’t heard back yet so I thought I would post here to see if anyone had any suggestions.

There was a fruit pebble frag that RTN’d about a third of the way up the stick. I thought I was going to lose it, but it seems to have stopped there. Maybe it will make it. I can take that loss better than the loss of the angry bird LOL

It seems to be holding steady, so I'm hopeful... Did yours make it? Thanks
No but I can’t blame all of that on RRU. That was several years ago and my Tenuis skills were not as good as they are now. I’ve had a couple frags come in that pale and they did fully recover though. Good luck

Thanks! I’d be happy to hear any advice you might have.

When sps are bleached like that they arent able to get much if any energy from what little zooxanthellae they have left, so they get most of their energy from catching prey with their polyps. id recommend direct feeding it while the polyps are out a couple times a week til it gets it color back.

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately there isn’t a lot of polyp extension, but I can see them a little bit. I does phyto regularly. I’ll try feeding some reef roids and reef chili and amino acids. Thanks for your help

I thought I would post an update and see if anyone has any other advice. I don't think it is much different. Maybe the base is a little worse? I have fed it a few times. Holding steady on the light at about 175-200 par for 11 hours a day and less than that for a couple of more hours... Too much? Not enough?

Anyone have any advice? Thanks

Well you’ve got some polyps out so that is good. The paleness is scary but it seems to be hanging in there. I’d continue doing exactly what you have been doing. It just needs some time to decide if it will thrive/survive or not.

Thanks, I appreciate the input. I'm not really sure I can do anything else, just wish I could...
