Help with Dosing Nitrates - Still Undetectable

A detailed clue keen on clarifying:

Being able to register a change in free ammonia based on feeding, even a decent sized feeding

Are you using a seneye or API for ammonia I'll go reread

The reason I ask is, precision ammonia measuring is ushering in a new level of concern. Like salt measurement, as if nobody survived nineties reefing with swingarms :)

concern being converted into retail $ concerns me

Not that precision ammonia is bad, for large tanks w fish hiding places it's awesome. The levels that ammonia varies in a normal day's reef activity, feeding, etc is safe and not an upper limit for action. It's the export that counts over the long term, these spikes aren't at ld50 toleration level for anything we keep so I hated to see ammonia measures in a post cycle tank ever cause hesitation. If API is the measure it's ok to log the numbers for pattern watching fun but it never amounts to an upper limit of feeding. If you aren't leaving feed strewn among the tank surfaces then it's not overdone.

in reefcentral post back in 2003 this guy had the genius to occasionally move his favorite coral to the bottom of the tank for his rotational monthly blast feeding. I guess some sps locked into place can't be moved, but many Lps and others can.

Using high quality refrigerated and frozen reef food and using the normal portion for the day / vs casting it into the topwater he inverted a dish bowl plastic underwater over the coral with a small hole in the bottom.

Injected master feed into the hole, dish weighted down in place for the event. Coral extends feeders and gobbles half hour undisturbed. Then lift bowl and disperse days feed, this is feeding corals to the max without increasing the feed amount. Creativity concentrator
