HELP WITH ID PLEASE

I think you maybe right, it seems the closest to match. Most of these coral I got from a tank in very sad shape, most corals where in need of some good vitamins and some love, And at the time I had a small tank that was not very happy, now all corals are in a bigger cleaner tank with more lights and better flow and regular water changes. They are starting to come back in color and growth. I think the biggest thing is going to me to wait and watch them grow out and get more healthy. But this guy has been glowing like I have never seen. Let me know what you find. I might try and put my phone under water to see if i can get better picture tonight. But I am still working up the nerve to do that. It is suppose to be ale to go under water!!

Always risk it for the shot.

As for water issues... what size tank were your corals in? Were the pictures on the eggcrate from your system? They seem to have a lot of algae, do you have excess phosphate or nitrate? What kind of filter system do you run?

They were in a 30 cube not drilled with hob skimmer, and I was feeding lots of coral foods to try and get them happy again, the gha is from that tank due to over feeding coral foods and not having a great skimmer and only changing water every 3 weeks to keep a stable place. everything now is in a 60 low boy, with a 29g sump, skimmer rated for 150 gallons, running filter sock, and have 18watt uv, doing weekly 5 gallon water changes, no coral food now just lrf for the fish, the gha is slowly going away, no live rock or sand was brought into the 60 from the 30, and corals are still happy.
now it is just time to let things grow and get big.

Look up Merulina coral. I believe that is what you have.

It took a lot of digging. This picture above is the exacty type I also have (might be the same as you). Always assumed the coral I had was a platygyra species, but suspected it could be different. Now i know.

EDIT: After more research... It is likely a merulina ampliata. This is definitely the species I have, and although in the pictures you have its hard to tell, it seems to be the same as yours as well. Did some research on this species, its actually very cool. I thought nothing of this coral when I bought it, I got a good chunk for $15. But now im glad I bought it and cant wait for it to grow...

With the first pics I was going to guess you we're pulling our legs and taking a pic of one of those plastic reef tank decorations!
