@Randy Holmes-Farley you said about seachem marine buffer having borate in it. I mentioned I overdosed that product and last night I shon a flashlight into the center sump chamber of the WB AIO tank. The glass that separates the DT from the sump is black in color but turns out it's just really dark tinted glass and is nice to be able to see inside the chambers in the dark. Since the overdose to raise the pH I just let the tank come back on its own.

Problem is now it did raise the alk and it's at 10.2 I noticed a white precipitate on the glass inside the rear middle sump. It was real easy to scrape off. Is that the borate? And I'm thinking of doing a 15% WC this morning. Is that a good idea to get the dkh down and also remove the borate or is the borate already gone?

Tank has been up for a week and only thing moved from the fluval was the rock and livestock. Ammonia is not detected. Thoughts?

I don't think borate will precipitate. Seachem used to make a salt mix with 12x normal levels and it didn't precipitate. I expect it is calcium carbonate.

Calcium carbonate, I've never had it peel off soooo easy. It was like a white skin and took very little effort to remove off the inside glass, that's why I asked if that demon product being so overdosed would cause it.

Could be something else, but I'm not sure what. A bacterial film generally would not hold together to peel.
