Help Wonderful Powder Tang Very Sick

You should also consider a different LFS. I don't mean to be rude, but raising the temp for ich is freshwater advice, and even then is questionable. Herbal remedies for parasites also aren't going to work. There ARE some who maintain tanks and work on immunity or minimizing the impact, but those also require lots of work and otherwise pristine conditions and fish suitable to the environment. A blue tang, or powder brown, isn't suitable in a 90 gallon so they will already be a leg down (From build posts, you may have bigger and just didn't mention). They are ich magnets.

There are many variations on QT, but it still needs to be done and have medications on hand. Longer term observation, prophylactic treatment, or a mix, but it shouldn't go into your display. You already know the display likely has flukes, and "could" have other things. Those flukes will remain until all fish are removed and is left fallow, or the DT treated with praziquental. It's one of the FEW treatments that can usually be used in a DT. For ich, velvet, or brook if they exist you have going fallow left as the only option :( And, I can attest, it's no fun :(
Thank you what is LFS?

Oh, sorry, LFS is Local Fish Store :)

I think you are right because I asked about he size of the tank because I looked it up while I was in the store and they said do not pay attention to that. It will be fine. I am not giving up. My 35 gallon biocube was supposed to serve as my quarantine thank but I gave it to my 16 year old who has a saddle puffer in it and is not willing to let me practice with his tank. If this does not work I am going to leave tangs along and stay with hardier smaller fish.

My mistake! Now I have him and no quarantine tank. My 2 clownfish and chromis are fine as of now

Just catching up on this thread.

After the FW Dip did you find sesame seed looking things coming off the fish?

While Brook is not common in fish other than clowns, my initial thought when I saw the pic was brook.

I did not see any sesame seed looking things in the freshwater dip. I could have missed it.
Should I dip my Brown tang just to make sure he does not have anything?

I have to do something. He is in the bag getting use to my water temperature. I may end up giving him away to someone with a larger tank. HOwever for the next day or two I have to place him in my tank. I can uses the herbal supplement provided it does not hurt the corals.

If it was an extreme case of flukes you likely would have had many of them come off.

Treating fish with erbal remedies is not very effective. It may help prolong or control parasite affliction. It will not erradicate them.

Thanks to everyone.

What about a quick freshwater dip? That is to make sure he does not have anything.

What fish are you talking about dipping? Are there symptoms?

My new fish, brown tang but he looks perfectly clean. No symptom. Some people do it as a percaution.

You could dip it, that would tell you if it has flukes. It could also provide temporary relief if it has anything else, but the dips wont eliminate any parasites.

I recommend and quarantine all fish but some folks dont, maybe some of them will chime in with non qt methods if that's what your wanting to do.

All the best
