So my to little fish in qt have been there for 1 week now. I decided to test the water
Salinity: 1.025
Temp: 77
Ammonia: HOLY S*** off the chart Api test
Nitrate: didn't test
Ph: didn't test
Phosphate: didn't test
Nitrite: again HOLY S***
Mind you these are to separate tanks 3.5 gal each same results. When I started them I used some filter floss from my display to help seed also a chunk of rock I also used some microbacter. So I immediately did like a 85% water change and added 1 capfull of microbacter. Why did the nitrifying cycle die? Hope they make it

how did you setup the quarantine tank and when?
Is there anything that support nitrogen cycle in there ?

I set the tanks up 1 week prior. But the rock have been from my display for months now. And the floss was 1 week old. The fish seem fine eating swimming great. So there's plenty of food for them to poo and rot for ammonia

Do you have salt water at temp for a WC?

OK. Pour ammonia neutr in there. Ammonia that high.....just do it, do water changes hardcore for a few days while testing IMO at least.

It's a small spotted fox 1.5 inches and a 1.5 inch tomini tang. They both can fit inside 1.5 pvc

If fish seem fine check exp date on kits

okay I'll clean some with a net I did get alot out with the water change. But still what would cause the cycle to stop

PH being out of control can kill the bacteria. Also not having any ammonia at all can do it too.

Ammonia and nitrites of the scale would think fish would show some symptoms but safe bets water change and neutralizer as suggested check kits and test method didn’t mix up bottles ( no offense I have done it’s)

And when I say at all, I mean being created, not undetectable..you want it undetecable, but being created.

Let’s get better picture of tanks
2 qt’s both 3.5 gl
Filtration rocks and floss from display ( how long rock cured in display)
any water movement for air exchange?
any hang on back filters ?
Water top off for evap?
Good news your on top of it fish not showing distress atm and your in small percent who sets up a qt system Very cool
Check what ya can above to do seachem has good ammonia neutralizer for emergency answer any other questions about your setup and ask more ?s if ya think of em will call big guns

So the tanks have a small filter built in that I used 1 week old filter floss from my sump on display. The rock has been in the sump for 3 months and that tank is doing great. Air movement is from standard airstone ( tank to small for power heads ) no ato I leave that to me for qt and dt tanks keeps me involved. Turned the lights on for the pic but lights are currently off less stress on the little guys. That's 1.5 pvc the tomini is in very little fish

If your fish seem ok I'd check the expiration of those test kits and consider getting a second opinion from a friend or taking water to lfs to check

So I just retested the water after the water change.
Tangs water: ammonia good
Nitrite still high
Foxface water: ammonia really high
Nitrite good
Tomorrow I'll do another water change and hope I can fix this both the fish are swimming around now not breathing heavy or anything strange

Nitrates and ammonia bad news I’m thinking something else is tripping up with fish not showing signs.
Never a fan of api kits. If you can take some water to LFS they should pop,off a free test. Another peace of mind I use on qt/hospital tank us a seachem, ammonia badge great visual cue especially if with small water volume where a little can laid a big difference
Glad fish are well kept us posted.
