His mom believes that's what they're called anyways is there any advice do I just put the water in the tank and the live rock and that's all or what do I do I'm lost in regretting my decision his mom just wanted to dump out the water and throw everything out but I didn't want that to happen please help

First off, sorry for your loss, its tuff. Especially grabbing a responsibility like this hobby. But you came to the right forum, and everyone will help you get on the right track. Is there any fish?

If you never had interest in the hobby. Before this happened, it's going to be hard. Start looking in to how to do proper water changes. Small tanks can be touchy. Moving it is kinda easy. I would put a post up on here looking for a local reefer to help.

Nope no fish just corals
Ok ill try to give you a baseline, but once in a hobbyest lifetime, youll have to go through this. First off, get some saltwater, wether you want to buy it at a fishstore, or make it yourself. get some 5 gallon buckets or a larger tote. Empty the tank down to about 2 3 inches above the sand then take the rock and coral. Corals can live exposed to air for quite some time, but i wouldnt allow it more then 15 minutes. Ditch everything left in the tank beside the equipment and start fresh when you get home. You have mostly hardy corals that take beatings comming in and out from shipping for days on end. Then they wind up in our tanks looking beautiful =) So honestly i wouldnt sweat the move. Just take your time

Welcome to R2R and sorry for the reason you're getting in to the hobby, but I'm hoping it will be an enjoyable experience once things settle down.

I've posted a couple of threads/articles for you to take a look at. One on moving to help you get through that. The other is to provide the basics of saltwater aquarium keeping.

Good luck and we're here to help.

No Chlorine and other "stuff" in regular tap water will kill aquarium inhabitants. I would suggest buying a cheap Reverse Osmosis system. You can also buy RO water usually at your local aquarium store. Some people do use tap water and use chlorine remover. The problem is that tap water has too many nutrients in it that will lead to algae growth.

Where are you located? There might be reefers near by to come give a hand. If the previous owner was in the hobby for a while, she/he might have left equipments like ATO, RO/DI, chemical, .....

Definitely purchase RO/DI water from your local fish store (LFS) to mix your saltwater for the time being. You'll want to get your own RO/DI unit eventually.

That's what I was going to as you didn't add it to your member page. Take a deep breath its a lot to take in.

Sorry for your loss. Where are you and the tank located? The move may not be too tough if you can get some local reefers to help. I have moved 120 gallons, 65 gallons with no issues.

Welcome to R2R. Sorry for your loss.

Wow this is a lot to take in I do have a local petstore so I will be sure to check them out I'm 20 years old so I'm willing to buy whatever it needs I just want to make sure I do it right ima buy a couple books and try to learn as much as I can

Welcome ot R2R! Sorry for your loss though :(

Thank you I've been doing some thinking and I'm thinking about donating the corals and livestock to a petstore and I'm thinking about keeping the tank and doing my research and getting familiar with the terms then establishing my own saltwater tank
