I apologize that as a grown man I can’t read a syringe— but here’s the embarrassing question:

I need 1ml. I assume that in the top photo I have the plunger pulled back correctly— the widest part (first ring) of the plunger is at the 1ml. mark. But what about the fact that this syringe comes with the green attachment? Is it only 1ml. when when the green attachment is OFF? In the top photo, with the green attachment on, am I getting more than 1 ml.? (If so, how do I know where to situate the plunger in order to compensate?)

Help please o_O

Is there a way to block the bottom of the green part so you can measure out 1 ml in the syringe and then try and add that to green part to see how much it holds based off how much you have left in the syringe?

(Thanks, @Hemmdog... ironically I thought it just might be. Lol! It will probably be answered by someone with a Ph.D. in Chemistry.)

Top of the black rubber stopper, but not the “nipple” at the 1ml line. Good in pic 1 and also not that crucial to be that exact I am guessing

Disregard the green tip. 1ml is to the end of the syringe

Easier to see with some propofol

Do you need to attach the green part on order to reach what you need? Or is it meant to be added after you draw into the syringe?

Your always going to have a little air in the syringe using the tip. The results of the tests using the tips are calculated using the tip. When not using the tips your results will be off.

My best ‘deduction’ is that because the 1-2-3-4-5 gradations appear even, with no reduction in 0-1, that the green nozzle— if filled— will put the total volume over 1 ml. I suppose I could squirt 1 ml. into a spoon, eyeball it, then fill only the green attachment, squirt it into another spoon, and see how close they look. But even a small difference would probably invalidate my alkalinity Hanna Checker, due to the small water sample involved. :(

doesnt matter if the green tip is on or not - start with the plunger completely depressed - dip the tip (I dont care if you have the green extension on or not - just put the end of whatever in the fluid you want to draw), draw the tip back BEYOND 1 ml.

Lift out of the liquid, hold with tip up, push plunger until the lowest "gasket" ring is right on the 1 ml mark.

Whatever liquid you have - is 1ml worth.

If the green tip holds more than 1 ml you may not see any liquid in the actual syringe - it doesn't matter though.

The issue is displacement .

If you put the green tip on and draw back the syringe from zero to 1mm ( while the tip is submerged in a liquid) then you will end up drawing 1mm of liquid into the green tip. When you push the syringe back to zero you will eject the 1 mm of liquid.

Be careful to keep the tip submerged or else air bubbles get sucked in and you get less than a mm in/out.

I don’t recall Hannah using a syring of that size for reagents . You using it for sample tank water or reagent?

You will end up with the same amount in liquid no matter as long as the black part of the plumger is stopped at the 1 you will have 1ml

Draw liquid with green attachment so that you have more than 1 ml in the syringe. Hold syringe with the tip up and pull in additional air. Flic syringe with finger to release any bubbles. Slowly move plunger up to remove all air until you have drop of liquid . Put tip into vail of liquid you draw and but the plunger down till first seal is at the 1ml mark like in the upper syringe in your image. Now put the tip in vial you need 1ml in and press plunger down till hitting resistance but don’t over do it. Either discard tip with liquid in it or draw some air and squirt the rest of the liquid back into the original container. Depending of what you do not best practice, but that is up to you

Just make sure that you either use the green tip when you draw your liquid and displace it or leave it off when you do both. Never draw fluid with the tip on and remove it to expell the fluid
