Hermit crab reef safe?

is this a reef safe hermit crab? TIA and may i know the id?

Blue and scarlet hermit crabs have always been 100% reef safe for me. Algae and Halloween hermit crabs have also been totally safe. I also have assorted mix of "unknown" hermits that I've been collecting and none of them have bothered any of my corals, either.

Not giant reds, pretty sure that's it. Because they occupy emperor conch shells they don't really do well with coral let alone fit in the average tank

Can i put him in sump instead?
 
looks like Calcinus laevimanus to me. Reef safe and won't grow much past that.
 
Yes they are reef safe. I probably have 20 of them and this pair lived about 10 years so they were pretty big, like a ping pong ball.




The one in my avatar is a local New York crab and I also have a bunch of them.
 
They are reef safe, but if you don’t have enough empty shells laying around they will kill snails for their shells.
