Man I’m posting here a lot sorry.

Busted my scarlet hermit in my Duncan going to town. Best approach to this? Just trade in to lfs load up on snails ?

You don`t need to be sorry,we are here to help the best we can. No need to worry about scarlet hermit crab, I used to have quite a few different hermit crabs before and they just walk all over corals just looking for food. They weren`t hurting anything ,just looking for food.

His claws were going to his mouth. Assume eating algae? Heads were closed up obviously.

They are looking for food. Feed enough so the crabs get a good meal too not just a leftover morsel . Once they have a full stomach they will be too lazy (like us after Thanksgiving) to work climbing corals. But now that they know that the Duncan is a source of food it might be a hard habit to break.

That’s my fear. First day with Duncan. And a few weeks ago clowns added. I upped the food considerably. A good bit of uneaten mysis pulled off sand bed during water change. Guess I just need to find homeostasis and keep an eye on them.
Assuming if it’s re-occurring my best choice is return to LFS and stack more on snails ? I do have cleaner shrimp inbound.

First fellas ever. Tim Duncan and Toadstop opening.

Patrolling them for food;)
Will monitor then :) thank you. Any obvious signs of “this freaking crab is freaking eating me” to watch for?

Everything looking good nothing to worry about.

If you have an Emerald crab it would be a different story.

Viewing a coral rack I was commenting on all of the bubble algae. And let it slip “ I’d have an excuse for an emerald...”

That looks like a healthy Duncan, with many heads, and can probably afford a food ripoff once in awhile. If the hermit crab was a killer you would of seen the damage already. I wouldn't be too concerned. Feed that Duncan, it will grow fast, and it become one of your favorite corals. I like mine so much that I bought another that is a slightly different color. Also have 3 Emerald crabs and they don't touch the Duncans... at least not yet anyway. You never know with crabs but worth the chance. If bad they are easy to catch and make great sump inmates.

It would be good to remove this coral rack from your tank, brush off the bubble algea with a toothbrush and soak for a while in a vinegar solution and rinse with hot water. Emerald can do more harm then good when removing bubble algea because he would bust open the bubble algea and spread spurs all over your tank.

To clarify. The coral rack was at the LFS. I only have the Duncan and the toadstool here at home. But while browsing I was shocked at how much bubble algae was in there.

Word of warning... if the LFS that you are buying coral from has bubble algae it is only a matter of time before you will have it also if you are not very careful.
