Hey guys and gals... I've got some stuff for you!

I will be getting in some Copper hornets here next week. Those should be a treat for those onto the hornets! Also some Miami vice and purple orchids to come this month as well. I'll keep you all informed!

I just sold one and I only have 3 left. Those are some finiky polyps. I also paid 65 bucks for the first one it's taken 6 months and I got it to 10. Tricky buggers. I had a blue agave as well. It didn't make the trip to Tennessee. These are much more hardy. I got them from a vendor in Cleveland.

That really didn't answer my question.

"I have sold out of some stuff and running low on a few. I have some prices changes to reflect."

It's totally up to ETRC members to purchase from you. I will say that raising the price of a product because supply is low and demand is high, is essentially the definition of price gouging and not even remotely conducive to what our club represents.

I am not a distributor. I don't do this for a living. As a matter of fact it's coming out of a modified 29g biocube. It has taken me 10 years to collect the items in my tank. I have gone to many many many frag swaps all over the united states to get what I have today. It is essentially artwork at this point. I feed them, I care for them and I cherish them. It has taken me months and years to grow them out. They are beautiful and people want what I have gone above and beyond to collect. These prices are nearly half what it would take to purchase them and have them shipped if you could find them retail or LFS here in Tennessee.

To criticize my style of selling publicly is disrespectful. These wonderful people that I have met thus far in this club are great people. They saw something that they wanted and purchased the items. This isn't a political rally or economics debate. I run a successful property management company (BBMG LLC) and my wife is a doctor at Niswonger downtown Johnson City. I am not hurting for cash or even trying to compete with fellow members.

I have a ton of pride in my tank and it's contents. My prices will go up to $1,000 for a purple hornet if need be if I only have a single polyp left. Do you mind fluctuating gas pricing? Milk prices? How about two gas stations across the street from one another changing their gas prices? Ask MJ or Lebron why their shoe prices flucuate so much monthly. Try getting some of his XI's that were sold out in 2 days online. Coral is no different ESPECIALLY at the local level.

Honestly, I say to those that take issue with public discrimination and alienation tactics to start a podcast. It might help to voice your opinions publicly there. Joe Roegan Experience is a good place to start. Reddit boards discuss it regularly.

I do not agree with your tactics and you may not agree with how I go about business but take it up with me privately. I am a good and reasonable man. I am sure if we got together we all would get along very well. As a matter of fact, if you would like to direct me to whomever takes donation for local club raffles, id love to donate some of zoantids from my private collection.

So that being said, I have many friends around the United States in the hobby. We all trade back and forth from California, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Orlando and Houston. I am getting some new stuff in very soon and I will be able to share with all of you locally if you want some very unique stuff that you can't find anywhere around. Again, this is not in bulk. I am very limited.

As a token of gratitude to those that really love this hobby and don't necessarily agree with price flucuation in a very specific market but do love the trade, buy and selling in our capitalistic democratic society I am offering up a FREE purple hornet frag for any purchase over $10.

(Those of you that purchased from me prior, they are free to you guys!)

Check back regularly and im sure ill be seeing alot of you at local meetings! Love ya guys!

Just a couple of observations: it would have been one thing if your prices were a certain number from the get go till you sold all your frags. But increasing the prices just because you only have so many out of a certain stock left is a little counter intuitive to the spirit of this hobby. You quite proudly claim that you are not hurting for money and are not a distributor (i.e. not doing this as a business). Why then the fluctuating prices with changing supply/demand? That is a classic example of a businessman. Again, if you had not changed the price midway, I don't think we'd be having this discussion. This discussion didn't result from how much you're charging for the frags. If someone thought they were too high, they just wouldn't show interest.

You cannot compare what you're doing (selling) to milk/gas/shoe prices. Those folks are a business and they are in it to make a profit by hook or by crook. This once again goes against what you're saying your intentions with this sale are.

Don't want to get into a lengthy debate here. I just wanted to respond since you seem to be quite offended with our comments. And lastly, Rob quite clearly said that it is up to ETRC members whether or not they purchase from you. No one is leading anyone one way or the other here. If we feel something is wrong, by all means I will be vocal about it. This is a public forum after all.

Yes, I am offended. The notable characters of the ETRC community decided to take to a forum and attack my ideals and principles. That is alienation. However, I am 31 years old. I am beyond a petty argumentation process of back and forth banter. I'd rather talk to folks on a one on one instance as opposed to airing opinions online. I am brand new to this local chapter and already I have been "black balled" by the tenure. I'd have alot to offer this community by ways of donation, sale by way of diversity and most of all, discussion.

For those that have been in the hobby as long as I have (pre "Finding Nemo") you have seen the prices of livestock triple, quadruple. Then the designers showed up and then swaps were flooded with brandage. Most of us little guys were excited to see many new species arise but pricing flew through the roof. This does not bother me. I do associate our hobby trade with milk, gas and Jordan as much as I do with finite artwork. You don't see millionaires giving up their James Dean Porsche for 20k. It doesn't matter how affluent you maybe to honor what I believe my art ie private collection is worth due to limitation.

You speak of "businessman" in a somewhat derogatory manner. I consider it a endearment for anyone that has a hobby, collection or sheer interest with intent to buy sell or trade. If someone wants to sell a krakatoa for $1,000 (which did happen) and many did buy it at those prices, I am thrilled at the concept. I remember when the hornets hit the scene at $150 per polyp. Now they're in my $10-$25 range. Rarity drives all markets. I am not trying to lecture but only voice my opinion as the previous statements had on their end. PUBLICLY.

My salted agave zoanthids are my favorite polyps by far. If you take a look at my rock formation, I am trying to keep a perfect balance between invasive species and size. I had to move the Hawaiin PEs yesterday because they have a much taller stalk than the salted agaves. While I was in there I cut three off. Now three of them are able to be shared throughout this community.

The purple hornets are right where I want them. I do not want that colony to spread anymore. I will cut any polyp that deviates from that disc because the purple hornets become a nuisance if you do not keep up with them. In 6 months ill probably do another sculpt when I get more species in on that rock.

You see it as price gouging and signify my action as capitalist. I consider it a wonder that this local community now has the introduction of my species from all over the country into the Tri Cities area. My agaves will increase in $5 increments until the last 3 polyps are sold. That is what I feel as if they are worth.

Again, I have alot to offer this community. This isn't me rocking my mercedes in alligator shoes. I drive a subaru baja and wear flip flops. Im trying to convey that another passionate member to any society is a +1 no matter what the circumstance (with the exception of cruelty on part of the animals).

Thank you all for your genuine discussion!

My name is Brett by the way! Here is a picture of my lovely wife and I on one of the MANY amazing trails in the part of the country.

What's with all the crying?

The only price that changed are the salted agaves from $35 to $40pp.

We should give the seller a break. It's not like he doubled the prices on all of the zoas for sale. He raised the price of one zoa by only $5.

The $5 is on principle of a few or many. I've seen this many times before in multiple chapters across the country. It's very much a personal/political standpoint on capitalism. Sort of a "you're ruining the hobby" or as Blue Devil put it "spirit of the hobby" stance by way of real economics.

I have no problem with other people's stance or talking points just as long as they have no issue with mine. It's the public admonishment that bothers me. Just don't buy it for the extra $5 if you don't like it instead of airing your political standpoint.

I want to be apart of this community in a positive manner. I'd love to talk about it at a meeting! Possibly even a seminar. (I am not sure if you guys have that at ETRC)

I think you're missing my point. I did not mean that being a businessman is a bad thing in any shape or form. I was just trying to make the distinction between a hobbyist (who I would hope is in it for the love of the hobby) and a businessman who is in it to make money when its all said and done. Now I didn't say it that I expect you (or anyone else) to just give stuff away, or at throwaway prices. I would have been totally okay with it if you started out at even $100 a polyp and left it there. Might not necessarily pique my interest, but the price point is your call. My point was about fluctuating prices. And it is not about the amount, it is just the fact that they changed overnight. I would even have accepted if you had said that the original price was a mistake and here is the correct price. But the whole supply/demand thing just doesn't sit well with me, especially since you claim that you aren't in it as a distributor to make money.

Anyways, I'm said my piece so I'll end here. Good luck with the sale.
