Glad to see your tank bounce right back up!!! Thank goodness I had a back up tank to hold all my sps and then i set up a kiddie pool in my garage for the fishes. Took me a whole week to clean out the tank and another month to transfer over...lost a few nice pieces along the way but could of been worst....Rockin and Rolling again lol

Funny you should ask! My 2 year old Grandson watches a kids show that has sink or float experiments. The Wife noticed he had been real quiet for a few minutes and first she thought he had put all his toys away. Nope!
Not only his toys but also the dogs stuffed toys are in the 16g bowfront nano.

You can see a ticked off clownfish in the lower left!
at least we now know potato heads neither sink nor float!

That's rough, but it happens when you have kids. I could say mine are not bad but kids think of the oddest things. Just laugh, its not worth getting mad. Good luck in keeping everything alive.

Sounds like issues that people have with open tops

I'd get on an acrylic cover piece for that reef

Oh man! I'm glad you didn't lose more than what you did. I feel your pain. In 2013 a week before my wedding, my son decided he wanted to get up in the middle of the night and top off my sump. When I woke up the next morning, I felt water in the carpet 6 feet out from my 155 gallon tank. At the time, it was just a FOWLR. Then I start to see water at the base of the stand and it's sinking into itself. I open up the doors to the stand to look in my sump. WATER EVERYWHERE! I lost some of my fish and over $5,000 estimated in damages to the house. It's a brand new house I might add. I didn't talk to my son for a week. He knew he really screwed up. My wife asked him why he did that and his response was "cause I'm gangster like that." I had just gotten custody of him from his mother and he was 8 at the time, so he did a lot of acting out. I convinced my wife to let me move the tank to where I can plumb the sump out into the garage so if there ever was a leak from it, it would be in the garage and not in the house. Insurance paid all but my $500 deductible and I got a nice new stand out of the deal.

Another instance, we had some nieces and nephews over. I ran an errand and when I came home, I was checking on all my tanks. I noticed 3" of spaghetti noodle sticking out the mouth of my comet goldfish. He was a good 5" at the time. One of the nephews did it and said he thought the fish was hungry.

Looks like when stuff was put in it just redirected water flow and stirred a lot up. It's clearing up slowly. Already had to empty the skimmer cup once, clean the skimmer bubble trap and in few going to clean the filter sponge.

So much for a disaster - this is genius! Have them do it once a week! :D

Oh man! I didn't have a tank until my daughter was much older but she's done her share of water related stuff. Once when she was around a year I wanted to take a quick shower so I locked her in the bathroom with me. Water temp changed and I heard the toilet flush. In 2 mins she has stripped completely naked (had been in a tshirt, diaper and socks), put it all in the toilet and flushed. Amazing!

As someone once said, 'the crisis of today is the joke of tomorrow'. Cherish the memories!

Ever had one of those mornings when your 3 year old wakes up much earlier than you?

Yes!

For no good reason I had a container of used carbon pellets that hadn't gotten to the compost bin or garbage yet...my 3 year old (then 2) thought my volleyball sized pink Stylo would look great decorated with it. :( Many of those carbon pieces are not coming back out of that coral until the coral gets fragged.

Same event....I had my seed starting operation for the spring garden going. I had been showing her the progress, seeds had been sprouting over the past few days. She thought she'd help and dumped them all in one pot. Huge mess, trying to fit about 2 gallons of soil into a 1/2 gallon pot. Damp potting soil gets along with carpet about the same as peanut butter.) Surprisingly, several of the seeds still sprouted and while their identity became a mystery, I did transplant a couple of them successfully. :D

My 2yr old son take great joy in cleaning the glass when I'm not around. I know it's happened as one half of the magnet is floating around in the tank :)

Well so far still good. Got a bit of a green and red cyano outbreak. But hey if that's all that I have to deal with I can make it work. Other than that I lost some tips, all the birdsnests seem to be slowly bouncing back and I still have to remount my Duncan when I can get more putty.

Sorry and hope you gain control again qucikly without losing much. Keep us posted on progress and actions.
