Hey, this stuff really works

I had a bunch of red cyano and green hair/slime algae. Looks a tad more vibrant here, and this is the worst of it, but I was trying to wait it out (tank is only 5 months). But it was a little frustrating and not very attractive. We have a lot of people coming here in a few weeks and I want the tank to look nice.

So 4 or 5 days after taking the above pic, I decided to try UltraLife Red Slime Stain Remover (the "stain" part makes no sense but anyway). I used half the recommended dosage just to be cautious.

24 hours later.

Everything else in the tank seems fine. My blue sponge looks a tad grayer but nothing else seems to be complaining.

And yes, I know I still have to address the underlying causes... but this is a wonderful start.

thanks for the info. bought some for a few spots in my tank and haven't used yet.

what is that macro in the front Goni on the sand in your pic?

Oddly enough, it worked so well I'm now wondering if my CUC has enough to chew on.

I have no idea what the algae is. I have added sand I brought home from Puerto Rico and some that I got with a Tampa Bay Saltwater order. I'm assuming it came in with them.

I have no experience with bryopsis, I guess I'll have to look into it...

I’ve used the freshwater version & it also works like a charm. When I saw the marine version I bought just in case. Still haven’t needed to use it yet, though.

used 1/2 dose last night after WC and harvest. will report back tonight when i'm home & lights are on.

skimmer going nuts as expected. I just have the drain plug out and cup is draining into sump. will swap carbon in 48hrs if it doesn't eventually settle down.

I have some and it seemed to push my Nems into hiding. I dont think they liked it. Curious to see your guys outcomes.

i saw no reaction last night with anything. thought my gorgonian and toadstools would retract for sure but all fine last night. toadstools were still extended this morning and gorg closed, but gorg always retracts after light out.

Just to be cautious, I pulled the fern-ish algae. It's a shame... I thought they added a little something different. I'm sure it'll be back.

FWIW, I didn't have any nems at the time but added three small nems (not bubble tip, the flat ones... can't remember the name) and they're fine.

my rock flower anemone was unaffected (only have one). plan to get a few more since the color morphs are awsome and they are hardy.

Finding the underlying causes will be nearly impossible. The saying seems to be a Victorian guilt trip about taking the easy way out. Enjoy your success…guilt free of course

It definitely gets thrown around that way doesn't it. I see it multiple time daily cruising the forums for good reads.

I may be new to the hobby and it's possible I'm a case of "he just doesn't get it". But we're trying to tame slices of ocean, and I don't exactly have lab grade equipment sitting around and a work schedule to test. Sometimes reacting or tossing something at the way to see if it sticks is what we got.

Tank looks real nice from the before to after photo though, I'll add that product name to the lost of "oh no" remedies I've taken down.

Sometimes it takes someone new to notice the jargon, adages and judgements.

Gotta be honest, I feel the guilt. I keep wondering what the downside could be... and it seems like there must be one or people would just do this instead of waiting forever for the tank to get passed the uglies.

I've read that tolerances can be built up to the stuff so it's not a long term solution to balancing the tank... but at least this stuff feels like guard rails keeping things pointed in the right direction.

Have you tried to find out what the ingredients are?...there might be an algaecide in it...

More likely an antibiotic.
