Not sure. One guy said they were redoing the sand bed on one coral system. He used to have these huge cubes in the center of the store with real expensive fish like $1000 tangs and those tanks are gone. Last fall he had a big tank by the front door with sharks and that’s gone. All the regular fish tanks at the front are very sparsely populated.

How long ago was this? I was just there like 2 months ago and that large multitank island thing was still there with all kinds of crazy awesome expensive fish. Good amount of SPS selection there.

Talked to Luis at reef geeks. He has purple tangs coming in on Monday for 75 and powder blues for 35. Look him up on Facebook if you want one. FYI they go fast.

I travel a lot for business and go to Chicago quite a bit. Now I've been there enough to know that Lou Malnati's beats Giordanos, but Connie's in Chinatown beats them both. And I also know that if you go to Portillo's and don't order their chocolate cake your missing out. No one has to tell me not to wear the other team's jersey at Soldier's or to take a side as an out of towner on Cubs vs White Sox; you're better off sticking to talking about the Blackhawks.

But what I don't know is: Who's the best coral vendor that's worth the time to check out while I'm there? I have a business convention in Chicago next week and will have about half a day to kill. I'll have time to get to anywhere but the far Western Suburbs, I would think.

That being said; Lou’s buttercrust deepdish is the best in the city out of all the chain joints, but pequod’s is waaaay better.

Also, I’m surprised no one mentioned old-town aquarium...
All the places folks listed are fine and dandy, but if you want to see rare fish old town is the spot!

I knew if I mentioned pizza joints I'd get some discussion.

Anyone want to call me out for saying my favorite rib place in Chicago is Carson's Take it to Go?

Funny you said that - we ended up eating Pequod's on Tuesday night. I had not been there before. Great neighborhood joint and the food was outstanding. Piles of huge, chunky toppings and unique kind of a burnt cheese crust. I'm glad we went.
