About $350 a month however every July I have to pay about $2500 in a true up. Otherwise the monthly would be much higher

I also have a 9 solar panels.

225 gallon tank. House stays 72 year round.

Pretty much. My first year in the county the true up was almost $4K. That would have made my electric bill at $1K a month. Madness.

So that's like $550 / month - every month!

What’s crazy is my house is a “smart house” all of the lights are LED and they automatically shut off after 20 mins the windows are energy efficient etc etc. still pay out the wazoo. Plus HOA and melarouse.

Though it wasn't until my first saltwater tank that got my bill from 200s to the new 350s+

I haven' read through every post here, but I do know that changing your supplier will keep electrical costs as low as possible. I change suppliers every year as when my 1 year locked rate is up. They usually jack the prices up...so I just switch to someone new. I'm always around the $.05 / kwh because of it. Sometimes suppliers like to sneak inconspicuous letters in the mail that tell you about a rate change in your community. That happened here in northeast Ohio with NOPEC a few years ago. If that letter goes unnoticed that allows you to opt out of that agreement, then you'll see your electric bill quadruple out of nowhere. I would look into changing suppliers on top of everything else.

There's also something on your bill called "cost recovery charges" or somewhere along those lines depending on you company. That fluctuates with gas prices. Another reason your electric bill could jump up.

To me it has never been worth the hassle to dave $10 or $15 a month on a $300 bill... only to forget and pay $350 when they contract term is up and the rates sky rocket past the default suppliers rates.

It is kind of useless in mots places.
Your utility owns the infrastructure. They lease that infrastructure to other suppliers at an approved rate. The generation is what you are buying from somebody else. That rate is a competitive but comparable and if it is "cheaper" it comes with strings attached with the gamble being that enough people fall for them that they slightly reduced rate is hedged. It is a lot of hassle to game the options to save a few bucks. At least that is my take.

You're absolutely right. Changing my suppliers every year keeps my costs at the bare minimum. It may only save at most $20 a month compared to default suppliers. I am one of those people that tries to cut costs on anything and everything though in this economy.
The main point of my comment was that it might be possible that whomever your suppliers are may have jacked their rates up without you noticing it...if you're one of those that saw a spike in your electric costs....for example NOPEC here in Ohio. My bill quadrupled out of nowhere. Lesson learned.

million dollar question- how much of an increase would i see with a 65 gallon tank with 10g sump, Sicce return pump, (mp40), 2 heaters, a brs carbon/gfo reactor, A360, and skimmer running? My bill was 232 this month and it was 136 last month. Tank was up and running just ova 2 months. It has been very hot here so I dont know how to account for how much the tank uses.

The cost of electricity on my last bill from Coned is fraction of the highest-ever and always increasing delivery costs. From 6/15 to 7/15 the delivery rates from covid are $0.21 per KWh - that's just the delivery.

My darn bill this month is nearly $800

That’s wild the cheapest we can get here is 0.16

yes you absolutely do have that ability. I’ve done it before but currently it’s not any cheaper from the other suppliers which sucks. We use PSEG but it should be allowed through everyone since it’s state law

You’d have to add up all the pumps and everything plugged in to the system checking their watts and amps and then you can calculate the costs based on what you pay for electric

Some devices like the newer apex eb832 have power monitors built in and can give you an estimate of what it’s actually costing you but it’s still an estimate.

The heat has been the killer and most likely due to your AC running almost nonstop like ours
