High electric bill

I live in Northern California. One month after I moved into my house 2 years ago I took a look at my electric bill and freaked out. I started getting quotes for solar panels soon after. Given the high electricity prices charged in California, the payback on solar is short.

hello reefers!!

My electricity bill has been a lot higher lately. I live in California with 30 cent per kWh!

I added an energy monitor the other day and it cost me $1.5 per day to run my tank! I imagine it would be $2 per day in the winter. It’s only a 90G tank with 3 XR15s and no skimmer.

My electric bill used to be $100-$150 before my tank and now it’s $220-$350 with only 2 adults and 1 toddler in a newly built home.

What’s your guys electricity bill with the tank??
I'd be thrilled with a $350 electric bill. I'm in California riverside county. We have a pool and keep the house at 68° year around and have a 75 gallon reef and a large freezer. I also have a climate controlled out building 10'x12' ( I use for other hobbies) Our bill is around $900 a month. During winter we might get down to $ 650 but that's the lowest. I hate being hot so I definitely pay for it but it's still ridiculous.

About 400 to 700 in northern California pge gotta make the money back from burning down a bunch of houses due to there neglect I wish I could leave this state

Nah - I suspect that my next door neighbor has a meth lab AND stealing my electricity. There is no way I’m at close to 2000 KwH! I only have 5 tanks, a pool, an EV, and a bunch of teenagers baking cookies all day long. Something does not add up! lol

Yeah, its possible, I was there in the summer with 2000+ kWh in a month.

Adding a tank can really make those bills jump, especially at 30 cents a kWh! I went through the same thing with my tank setup, and I’ve been looking for ways to cut down on costs.
One thing that helped me was Switching to Octopus Energy – their rates worked out way better for me, and it was easy to switch. Tracking down all the small things that add up can make a big difference.
