I took better pictures and the experts agreed, the brown spots I saw are Head and Lateral Line Erosion. It's happening to both my regal tang and now my coral beauty angel.

So diet, I'm told, is key to prevention and treatment of HLLE. I was feeding flake food daily, frozen mysis and brine shrimp every 3-4 days, algae sheets infrequently.

I've added algae sheets every other day. And now I'm starting Rod's Food - daily for now. I'm also adding Tropical Marin Lipovit to the frozen food types I'm feeding on alternate days (haven't tried putting it on the flake food yet). All this in an attempt to increase the Omega 3 fatty acids.

I'm also starting Eco System Fish Solution (once per week?).

Anyone have any other suggestions?
-Mark

Mark, hopefully those foods I got you will help you out... I really wish you the best of luck, but keep with it! I'd rather see someone like you take care of the fish rather than others that might flush them!

I do appreciate the guidance you and Brian gave me tonight. I hope the new food and food supplements work too. I'm going to be patient about it and not get discouraged.

Mark:

Just for your own sanity have you checked for stray voltage yet?

Brandon

Ya, I believe that was a suggestion when this started. did you ever check?

Ya, a grounding probe is a safety for you if there is stray voltage in the tank, not a test for it. Take a meter and put the negative end in the third prong of your outlet, then put the postive lead in the water. if there is stray voltage you will have an AC volt reading. sometimes milliamps scale.

ok thanks

Yes, I checked several weeks ago and again tonight. As best I understand how to use an voltage meter, I don't see any stray voltage. So I hope I'm doing the test properly. I set the meter to 250VAC, put the black probe in a ground and put the red probe in the water. I saw no change in the meter as I unplugged each device.

Think you'll need it on a little more sensitive of a setting than 250V.... at that point i thin kit would be pretty obvious just by putting your hand in the water :)

I'm not sure the settings on you're multimeter, but you probably want to use the most sensitive setting.

Oh and to keep from turning this into another great debate i'll reserve my comments on the grounding probe until we know if you have stray voltage.

Brandon

Good idea brandon take that to PMs! LOL! Notice I stayed out of it to!

Who said we didn't have self restraint...... Mark we can just get into this debate on Sunday..... so I can smack bryan

Maybe i should bring my mag 12 that will knock you off your feet and a grounding probe and let bryan stick his hand in the tank :)

Just let us know if you can have any stray voltage.

Brandon

Sorry for no response in a few days, work has been very busy.

Third round of testing for stray voltage.
1st - I fixed the meter. (old battery and loose fuse) lol
2nd - I set the meter to 50VAC
3rd - Results. I'm getting about 20 V total with everything plugged in. So I tested each component:

Skimmer in Sump - 3V
Right Tank Flow Pump - 4V
Left Tank Flow Pump - 3V
Heater - 5V
System Sump Pump - 5V

So the question I have (and we can talk about Sunday) is...
Is some voltage normal or do I have five defective items in my tank?

Yes, I'll bring the meter to the meeting. - Mark
