Hey mark, are you sure you are geeting 20 volts, and not .20? it doesnt make any sense to have voltage like that on each component. you would usually have one component gone bad. 20 volts should give you a shock (if you are grounded) So just incase wear tennis shoes if you have to touch the water, and avoid touching anything but the water , if you touch the water and then with the other hand touch a metal ballast box, or something grounded you will feel it. Anyway, just from what you are saying I doubt there is 20 volts total.

bring your meter tomorrow just in case, I will try and remember mine.

I'll bring the meter Sunday and explain what I did. I don't know a lot about using an electric meeter (that' probably very evident at this point). It's a cheap meter anyway. Maybe I'm not reading the scale on the needle arch properly. It may be .20.

have you tested for voltage after buying the ground probe on saturday? Try feeding algae every day. brine shrimp doesn't have enough nutritional value. careful with the rod's food it will funk up a tank if you use to much.

Thanks everyone for all the advice today at the meeting. Brandon, thanks for bringing that cool meter and showing me what you were talking about. - Mark

Yes. It went to zero. It is in a GFC outlet, but it is the same outlet that everything else is plugged into. - Mark

hey mark, just so you know, if there is truely 20 volts there. the grounding probe isnt the answer to the problem. Its contraversial, but some say that a completed circuit (which is what you would now have with the grounding probe) is still harmful as the voltage itself. I dont necessarily agree but im not educated enough to argue it. So anyway, what I am saying is figure out exactly where the probelm is and fix it. dont put a grounding probe in the tank and think problem solved.

Well it looks like things aren't getting any worse than they were so far. The fish are really enjoying the variety of foods they are getting now. I did purchase a new meter and the voltage was not as high as I thought, but still not good. When I take the grounding probe out it's reading 11v. I'm going to get under the house soon and see if I could put in a separate ground. I'm also going to rerun the tests with the new meter to see if I can better isolate the offending piece of equipment.

Do you have the ground probe in your sump? Because if its in the display and a fish got to it than it could be dangerous for the fish. (possible electrocution)
