Hob equipment for soft coral reef tank

i have a 90 gallon that is not RR and is tempered glass aquarium that i am wanting to set up a reef tank on i have a all glass stand with a middle center brace i thank i would have trouble fitting a sump in side the stand would i be able to use and HOB filter like a AQ 110 and HOB protein skimmer? i would love to add a sump but i would only be able to fit a small one.

If you can drill for two bulkheads, for HOB, clean look. If possible

If possible have an acrylic box made for HOB, with holes that line up with holes drilled on DT back glass. If you do your homework well, then you'll have custom dividers in HOB. You'll have a clean setup. If possible

Are you certain that the side panels are tempered? If not, you can drill holes through one of the sides and install a Ghost Overflow ( or equivalent).

I think he stated he doesnt have room for a sump. if your doing a softies only tank

yes a hob filter and hob skimmer should be fine.

imo most softies can handle high nutrients and might even prefer it.

the hob back might not even be needed imo. i would just get the best rated hob skimmer you can get. unless you already have the hob filter. then of course use it. also make sure to change out the filter pad at least once a week.

Drill Only if the glass isn't tempered. Honestly, when I started there were no "reef ready" tanks and HOB worked fine. Eshoppes makes decent HOB overflows and sumps...they will work JUST FINE..just size them properly and ensure good flow.

John I should also preface I am picking up 40GAL frag tank Sunday and it is not drilled. My plan is COral Life's HB/Skimmer combo...all I need for that with some good bioload for frags and a few small fish. Tank is 48x24x8.

I have a 75g tank that is run off a canister and a hob skimmer. I have softies and just added a bta(bulb tipped anemone). Everything is growing well.

yes imo softies dont even need a skimmer, unless you over stock tank and feed like a mad man

In my tank the skimmer helps with oxygenation and help keeps pH up.

NOOOOO!! You can leak test with Tap, but DO NOT start with tap. Use RODI and mix, or buy water at your local LFS.

But I wouldn’t
Why do it if your going to buy the rodi unit anyway. Just wait till you get it up and running

Don’t ever rush or over react in this hobby. Those 2 things kill more corals and fish than any pest

ok what a good brand of rodi unit? my lfs has one for 180$ but i found this one on amazon
i am going to go to my lfs to look at the one there i have limted space so i need some compact

I get mine from brs

You can probably find one cheaper on amazon but I know brs only sells units that are meant for reefing. So I trust them and if I have to pay 10 more I am ok with that
