Hi All,

Do you think this humidity needs correcting?

Anything green is <60%

I have mine set to run a dehumidifier cycle if I get over 60% humidity. However, I live in Florida and my A/C runs about 16 hours a day anyhow.

Regardless, 60% is where I get my warning on my phone and the dehumidifier comes on.

What thermostat is that?

It is called sensor push, just a sensor for humidity and temp. I’m wondering if I need to do something about this.

We live in Cali, and usually the windows and doors are open all day and night. Relative humidity is in the 60s.

So I am wondering if this need action to be taken.

Humidity has been a HUGE issue for me. I have several tanks. 180 with 40g sump, 135g with 40g sump, 32g AIO and 20g FW.

In the summer when the AC is on, everything is fine. In the winter.. I get mold in all the windows and doors. It is a constant battle. I keep the house cool in the winter (68*) so the heaters run non stop. all that warm water plus the naturally more humid winter air is a big issue.

For what it's worth, I keep the house at 75 in summer.

Maybe I should look into a dehumidifier soon before winter gets here.

Do you run an overhead ceiling fan? that helps mitigate condensation for us in winter.

Why would you want to adjust humidity? Is it to stop mould in the room? My humdity is just about always in the 90%+ range.
Humidity can impact the structure of your home. It is exacerbated when the humidity differs significantly from the outside as well.

If you have ever seen condensation build on the inside of windows, it is likely related to a humidity differential. So imagine if that were happening consistently to the wood of your structure. It would be a significant source of water intrusion.

Next is the health hazard of mold developing.

There are a lot of reasons to control humidity when you live in areas that is feasible to do so.

Hope that helps explain the source of the question.

I wholeheartedly agree!!!

Water is the #1 enemy of.. well pretty much everything. Excess humidity causes mold (which I have) Moisture deteriorates just about everything it comes in contact with. Wood, metal ect ect..

I absolutely agree that protecting your home from excessive humidity is a must!

Last winter, a storm blew down the fence between my house and the neighbor directly behind me. I went over to exchange information with him and discovered he has several large aquariums as well. I asked him if he had and problems and the first thing he said was "mold" !!!

Yeah, humidity needs to be controlled.

I run a ceiling fan in my fish room and a dehumidifier. I have the dehumidifier set at 45%. This keeps the windows from getting condensation in the winter, its also typically lower then outside humidity in the summer so the room feels cooler at relatively the same temperature.

What's wrong with being comfortable? I work in a shop environment hot in the summer cold in the winter. Last thing I want at home is to be uncomfortable.
Nothing at all. I didn't say it was negative thing. If you have the means to do it, do it. I do, so I do too. 72 year round ac and 60% for my humidifier but it never kicks on because me A/C runs 16 hours a day lol. I'm comfortable as can be right now.

I keep a window open for ph reasons, it also dropped humidity in my home by about 12% and I'm only running a couple 40 breeders at the moment...
