You know, fish despite not being dogs or cats are actually apart of our family. I came home everyday and saw and took care of my Diamond Goby. It was my fiancés bucket list marine fish, and we got it and it was our little buddy. Recently upgraded our tanks and last night he got spooked and jumped out. Really bummed out. RIP Diamond Goby. It’s amazing how something behind glass could impact my mood so much. If anyone has any fish they want to honor let’s do so. It was a pleasure to be your papa and have you survive all my beginner mistakes. :) rest easy in fish heaven.

I’d like to honor the flounder I had on Good Friday , I didn’t know him but he sure tasted good !!! , sorry just kidding I had to throw that in . I know it can be tough losing a fish that you like or especially a rare one that was been hard to find . I have a attachment to all my fish and coral and would be bummed if something happened to them. I’m sure everyone that’s been in the hobby long enough , myself included has lost a fish and or coral throughout our experience’s in this hobby . We learn from our mistakes and soldier on. Years ago I had a jaw fish that jump out of my tank even with what I thought was a good covered lid . My lesson was that if you have the smallest opening that you would think that a fish couldn’t jump through you’d be wrong . So now my tanks are Tight with no gaps and knock on wood I haven’t repeated that mistake . Happy Easter

My blue mandarin pair…… I flew too close to the sun when I should have pared the course. They did so well for two years. I basically hand fed them 3-5 times a day. I Don’t even have the heart to do it over again.

I have lost a ton of fish in my lifetime it just sucked because I had this guy when he was the size of a Halloween snickers but it comes with the hobby. I remember being 5 and knocking over my sea monkey kit and begging god to not send me to hell for killing thousands of shrimp haha.

I will pour one for them. Rest easy mandarins.

I have a hard time looking at my tanks (I still keep fw as well) whenever I lose one of my charges. It's even worse when they're your first inhabitants or they have a little extra something in their personality! So sorry for your loss!

to me fish were always sushi.. I never once felt any affections towards one and didnt understand people being so attached to their fish like as one would to dogs or cats..

but once i got in to the hobby with my kid, I finally understood why one can sympathize with such creatures. We feed them and test the waters daily to keep them from dying and we take full responsibility for their well being.

until finally our firefish goby was found laying behind my tank.. all dried up... it was actually a very disturbing and sad experience. When our firefish goby was first introduced to our tank it was super skittish and always hid in the cave and only to come out to eat. After a couple weeks it finally became accustomed to its tankmates and was always seen outside the cave.. so sad to see it go now that it finally was accustomed.

it was user error. I took off my mesh lid to feed/dose my tank and i forgot to put the lid back on for 2 hours. Thought it was just hiding in the caves, since there are reports of fish randomly disappearing for days at times...

I remember when my tilefish died (The same fish in my profile - It’s how I honour him and I don’t think I could change it till I find another). I came downstairs to check on him as 2 days before he jumped out and hit the floor rather hard for the third time. When I went downstairs to check on him he was still in his cave (Usually I won’t do what I did but this was unusual as he didn’t do this the previous times). First let’s go back to what happened after I picked him off the floor, when I got him back into the tank he swam around for a bit, went to the bottom, played dead and then shot into his cave. Fast forward 2 days from that and he still didn’t come out. I dug him out of there as he hadn’t eaten and usually when he jumps he would come back out a few hours later and eat everything and anything. Unfortunately he was already weak and didn’t eat much so I had him in a net and a towel over the tank. After coming back (I had to do something for 10 minutes - Can’t remember what though) I checked the tank with my family and unfortunately we took off the towel to see one of our favourites dead.
This was back in February and I had that H. chlupatyi since November 21. He really grew on me so now we’re trying to hunt down another but the only thing we’ve found so far have been other Tiles.

Rest easy young tilefish sorry for you loss. It’s amazing how much fish impact us. I’m sure you gave him the best life possible. I’m going to be a noob here and at first thought it was a filefish and had to Google tilefish. Those guys are really cool looking!

I want to honor our wrasse Klaus. He unequivocally without a close second has been the largest single pain in my @** for the past 5 years. Not a single day will go by without him ripping plugs off rocks, tipping rocks over altogether, crop dusting and clouding up the entire tank whilst he death rolls under the sand stirring critters up causing feeding riots.

Clocking in at just under 10" in this picture.

Besides the dog, cats, horses and reptiles, by far this fish provides me with the most "work that should've never even have happened."

For this Klaus, you are our honorary pita.

Yeah, here’s a few photos I got of him flashing (One of the most unique abilities of this species that no other fish has).

That was one beautiful formosa, he must’ve lived a nice happy life to have lived 5 years!

Oh he is very much alive.. I misread the overall idea of the thread when I initially responded.
No worries!
mare those colours on his body the light or actually his pattern?

No matter how hard you try sometimes they don't make it. I think about them every day and wonder what I did wrong or if it was inevitable. Strange diseases I have never seen in 10 years on forums or bad circumstances I failed to foresee.
It doesn't matter. All you can do is try again or quit.

I didn’t think this post would happen… Especially since yesterday he was healthy and didn’t look like he had any sign of death. Today I lost a favourite and he grew on me to the point he got a name. I rarely name my fish unless they really grow on me and this was one of those cases. Today I found my Pink Streak Wrasses body half torn and in the grasp of my Pom Pom Crab (Lybia spp). Ironically the thing that I was most proud of in him was the thing that had him identified as the fish that was being eaten… The blue in his anal and dorsal fins.

RIP Stripey with a mohawk

My Mandarin! Started out in a 10 gallon system, tailor built for her, eventually moved to a 25 and got a male that she went with for a good while, until he suddenly one day just turned hyper aggressive and attacked her relentlessly. She got eggbound and died not long after that. :loudly-crying-face:
