Hot salt or fritz

I recently switched to Fritz Pro from HW Marinemix primarily to save a little money. I have had success with it so far in a SPS heavy tank. I try to use a salt mix that closely matches where I keep my alk. I don't believe salt mix has a huge impact on success in this hobby. I have witnessed awesome tanks using just about every salt mix on the market.

It may not have a huge impact on success but I think it makes a big impact on the ease of success. Yes, lesser salts will work just fine but I found that when I switched to RSCP and then to Fritz, my dosing regimen got a lot easier. I hardly have to dose trace elements now and just do alk in my top off.

Like Jim, I switched to the RMP because the alk is close to where I want my tank to be at. The RSCP was always much higher than I wanted.

Fritz. Honestly because that's what my LFS used when I set up the tank. Bought salt and 100 gallons of water from him then used his salt mix (fritz) before I got my own filtration and started making my own. Already have the fritz in the garage from my initial purchase.

What does the Alk test out at of the Fritz RPM?

The Reef Crystals I had to add soda ash to get my KH to 9 but the Fritz is spot on.

20 years using everything else , and now 150% fritz ONLY , I will never look back , the single biggest hurdle i didnt know I had was the dang salt mix lol ......problem solved

What problem did changing salt mixes solve?

While I do not know what you observed exactly, but that most definitely is not generally true. Reef Crystals at reasonable salinity does not have alkalinity below 9 dKH.

and ph, what is the ph with fritz

pH is not an attribute of a salt mix (at least, not once you mix and aerate it). pH is determined only by the alkalinity and the CO2 level of the air it is equilibrated with. :)

I switched to fritz after using reef crystals for 8 years. I switched because my issue with RC is that no matter how much I roll and knead the bag I get large fluctuations from box to box in parameters. Looking at my log book (I log params on every new box) mag ranges from 1400 to 1600, alk from 9 to 12, and calc from 450-500 at 1.026.

Fritz is always 1420, 8.5, and 440 with only tiny variations. Plus it mixes clear in 15 minutes and no brown sludge residue.

I recently switched to Fritz from tropic Marin bio actif. Is there a reason why I would have more algae on my glass? Numbers are all good I just have more algae. I've done 5 or 6 water changes now and I do believe I have better coloring with my corals.
The algae is decreasing just wondering what would have caused it from switchings salts.
