Does anyone have an idea what the most highly sought after and colorful zoas are at the moment. I just started a new tank I want to dedicate to zoas and I see so much available! I'm so unsure of what is good!

Thanks!!!

Go on WWC’s website sort the Zoas price High to Low. The highest price ones... those are the Zoas you’re looking for.

I’m no saying this to be cute.. it’s supply and demand.

I would go with what you like to look at. Designer corals are great, but in the end it’s really about what you like. I’ve got a great selection of zoa and you can put together a great garden that won’t break the bank.

Pick corals YOU like to see and want, dont just pick them because they're popular or expensive. People take ones that look nearly identical to other ones, slap a dumb name on them, and then charge $200 per polyp when you can get the same ones for cheaper because they don't have that name.

Some of my personal favorites are common ones like the rasta, Utter Chais, radioactive dragon eyes, watermelons, fruit loops, and blow pops.
They often have the same colors as other, more "high end" ones but because they arent called that they're pretty cheap.

You're the one who's looking at the tank the most, so you should pick ones you like, not ones everyone else does. Also a lot of the super expensive ones are pretty melty and tend to die pretty quick. Theres a reason you only see individual polyps on frags and not full colonies. People ship them in from the wild, frag the crap out of them, then sell them before they melt for a quick buck.

Spending more money on corals doesnt mean they're better than others.

If you're looking to build a garden I'd stay away from larger vendors like WWC unless you don't mind paying the premium. They're good to go to when you want that one pièce de résistance. Going through a grower or hobbyist selling stuff in the forum you can put together a killer pack at a good price. Just my opinion.

As has been pointed out, paying a premium for something doesn't make it better. The pyramid name game scheme that is zoa collecting will having you paying $150 for something today that might be worth $35 in a few months. (Note, your goal should be growing out nice healthy colonies, not making money on frags.) There's very few zoas that can (and should) command high price tags, namely because they're hard to keep, rare in the hobby, or don't frag/ship well.

If you're looking for inspiration have a look at @joshporksandwic 's collection. He's got an eye watering mix of everything, and 200+pages to look at on his thread.

Joshporksandwich is the epitome of zoa collection and I will be eternally jealous of his collection lol. I live vicariously through him

I see Princess Oxanas, Stratospheres, and SBB Valyrian Steels as Fairies, Dragon Eggs, and Leprechauns. Finding them for a reasonable price is more difficult than having money to pay for em.

I’ve spent the last few months buying up different zoas and I’ve paid a little for some that I like a lot and a lot for some I like a little. So it’s been a learning lesson. But so far here are some that I like the most based on color, size and growth from most affordable to ummmm broke the bank (not in exact order of price...but close):

Mohawks (Mochicans)
Gobbstoppers
Magicians
Frozen apple
Petroglyphs
Utter chaos
Speckled krakatoa
BSA sticker shock
Hallucinations
Illuminati
Mind trick
GB Sundance
CK soul suckers
GB Rainbow eclipse
Grim reapers
Exospheres
Grand Master Krakatoa

SBB corals seem to be some of the most sought-after zoas, and most expensive might I add. Stratospheres being the absolute most expensive and I’ve never seen anyone outside of SBB selling them and also I heard they are very hard to keep. I say buy what you like and buy from online vendors and aquarists alike but shop around before you do to make sure your getting a good price on the zoa you want. I’ve seen one site have a coral for $199 and another vendor have the same exact coral for $59. I also recommend buying WYSIWYG corals...not corals based off a mother colony picture.
