How about these lights?

One thing I learned from Reefing is being handy to keep a budget reef.
My first canopy build was ok. The current fourth one is actually kinda nice.
Look at easy diy Ato. Use dc and a 12v pump. ($19) unles you had crap in the garage and mine was $12.

The ato is life support. Lights will come as you progress. The cooling is a big challenge.

You can PM me and I’ll get the ato plan for you.

I would rather not go DIY for ATO. As far as being life support...I'd say a return pump, oh yeah definetly. A heater or chiller, without a doubt. But ATO to me is just a convinence thing.

Below is my plan. Primary concern #1 is my tanks safety. Priority number #2 is my houses safety. Priority #3 is my kids safety! Haha just kidding of course the kids come first. So need to have it in a cabinet that can be "locked" or babyproofed or what have you. It won't be long. Just waiting to make sure the government isn't closing again and then I will have an ATO.

Going with a Tunze Osmolator. Can't beat it's reliability from what I read. Optical sensor plus mechanical float sensor. I wouldn't half way trust something I made myself lol.

No ATO yet. I'm topping up 32-64 ounces twice a day. So about a gallon of evap a day or so. I have a plan, just making sure the government is going to stay open before pulling the trigger.

My idea is another cabinet to the left of the aquarium with a reservior and a tunze osmilator 3155. Me and the wife wanted to replace a table that is already there anyway.

Here is one that I am looking at.

The ato isn’t convince. It’s water chemistry.
Tunze is great.

Many reefers have gone many years without an ATO.

http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2649865

My evaporation is 1% of total water volume (assuming 50 gallons of water at .5 gallons of evap every 12 hours).

Now I'm not chemist, expert in saltwater tanks, or anything for that matter but I would not think a 1% change in any parameter is going to harm anything.

That being said I do agree an ATO is definetly worth getting for the convinience factor.

See how that goes for you then.
I’m pretty good at chemistry and reeftankns.

And a 1% change will be detrimental to the health of a reef tank?

I'm getting an ATO regardless, just waiting to make sure the funding is there. Shouldn't be long now.
It won’t always be 1%.

And yes. That’s why I brought it up and also call it part of the life support system.

@Why-Me @Hemmdog

Well shoot, just found out I will moving in about 1 month. You see my uncle owns several properties. I have lived here about 4 years. Before that I was still in the nest at home working on college and what not. (got a Bachelor's degeee). He has told me that his daughter wished to move into the house we are in and that he had another house down the street. The reason the daughter wants this house is that it has an enclosed garage and she wants to turn that into a bedroom. The other house is slightly bigger but has a carport instead.

My uncle has always been real chill about letting me have pets, and drill holes for security cameras, etc. He always gives me a certain amount of rent off for Christmas and has came and fixed the plumbing a couple of times when I was in over my head.

I told him that I wouldn't mind moving. I dread the actual move but not a huge deal. He's been more than fair with me so I figured I would just roll with it and just tough out the moving.

That being said I don't think I will want to be drilling anymore holes in the house knowing he will be trying to fill them back in, in about a month.

So that leaves me kind of screwed as far as a light goes. First of all I am not adding ANYTHING else to the tank except new saltwater and fresh top off water.

What I mean by anything is any more livestock.

So that leaves me thinking. Is there a light I can use with my current lid. How about we circle back to the SB reefer 16". I believe the black rails can go over the side of the tank. You know like expand it out to where the legs our against the inside wall of the tank.

Is this possible. Do the legs even extend out?

Not sure on that light. I usually use gooseneck mounts. That’s cool on the move, a bigger place is always good. Your tank shouldn’t be to bad to transfer. Put the fish in a 5 gal bucket with tank water and just move and set it up quick lol. I moved last year with my biocube 32. It wasn’t fun but it wasn’t to bad. No casualties, coral actually took off after the move lol.

So guys I went with the 2 x SB Reef 16" lights from @Morelia

Model is do you know what the exact model is? Is it Sbox Extreme 16"? Not sure if they are a non "Extreme" version or if that even exists. Honestly don't care just happy to be getting some lights, just curious so I can see what info I can find as far as settings for my tank.

Should be getting the lights on Saturday! He was even nice enough to throw in the router he had configured to control both the lights and also sent me a video on the setup. I'll have to review that here in a bit.

Here are some pics of the goods. Can't wait to get them setup. Dumb question but if I wanted to just set them on top of my screen lid? Probably not a good idea right? Just wanted to see if that's an option. They would probably get too hot and too intense for that right? Probably need to be mounted a little bit higher? Just anticipating the steps to get them setup.

What % should I set my blue's and white's to peak at? SBReef has a suggested peak % and it lists inches, I'm not sure if the inches are the tank width, depth, or light width? I also have two lights so not sure how that factors in.

They have a spread sheet where you enter the peak percent and it tells you how to set the schedule in the app. I plugged in 40% for blue and 15% for white so far. Should I start off a little lower? Or higher? Not really sure what safe peak values are here.

I'm not sure I can really help here....I have the SB Reef Basic fixtures.....same PCB board, but not the fancy electronics to slowly ramp up and down. I simply have two knobs (potentiometers) for predominately blues/predominately whites. For what it's worth, here is how I'm running three fixtures over a five foot tank (I think 12 - 13 inches above the waterline). Whites are set at 30 percent, blues at 60%, and here's the timing of them running....to mimic a normal 12 hour day:

Sunrise (Moonlights) ----------- 1 hr --- 10AM-11AM
Morning (Blues only) ----------- 3 hr --- On at 11AM
Mid-day (Blues and Whites) -- 4 hr ---- 2PM - 6PM
Afternoon (Blues) ---------------3 hr ---- Off at 9PM
Sunset (Moonlights) -------------1 hr --- 9PM-10PM
