How about these lights?

No. Reread that please.
Algae likes the same light corals do but with the addition of Y O.
This light is engineered to to reduce the transmission of those additional colors.

I don’t belive I mentioned time.
SBreeflight has a sched posted on thier site , similar to what redfish blue posted.

Set the intensity at the peak to about 20,000 lux.

Most who run a short total photoperiod will have a longer peak and often a peak higher intensity, to run longer , a shorter peak and peak intensity.

So at the water line the highest reading I got was around 16K lux, in the front corners it's as low as 1K and the very front middle is 7K. In the middle areas of the tank I get anywhere from 10-16K. My lights sit 8" above the water line. This is the highest that the lights go on their mount. I'm thinking I have to wait to hang them in order to get a more even spread. I only have the one frag for now so not overly concerned but would you recommend I need to raise the lights and up the intensity after raising them?

I’d pick a number and scrams stay there honestly.

To getpar on most led from lux.
Devide lux by 60 and it equals par

So , 18,000 lux /60 is 300 par, Ish.

The goal is about 100 par on the sand , so in a small tank , that 16,000-20,000 I mentioned earlier is probably a good starting point.

And , IMO , a bit more is better than a bit less.

If you’re curious, you can test the level on the sand dry , by simply taking the light off the tank and holding it the same distance from the light to the sand.
You’d be looking for about 6,000 lux.

Yes you may need to wait to move to hang them higher for better coverage/spread.
Yes you would need to bump the intensity after raising them.
Eh, let’s bloom them diatoms.
Play with the colors and time etc.
cuz, NEW TOY!

So, you think it is good at this height? Sorry didn't fully understand your first sentance.

I don't think at this point it matters too much since my only frag is in the middle but I always like to try to plan ahead and visualize what the next move is. Thanks for the tips. I'll play around with measuring the lux at different heights and measure the lux and divide by 60.

OK, sweet. I'm not too worried about it right now. I think @saltyfilmfolks has given me a way to at least be in the ballpark and I think as I add more coral I will continue to experiment. May look more into renting the par meter as I get more frags if I can't dial it in with this method.

I became an R2R supporter anyway because I have gotten way more than $25 a year worth of value from R2R already and it's only been a couple of months.

I did this with a lux meter.

So I added a few things.

Can you see what the 3 things are yet?

How about under the white lights?

So I got some snail's. I think they are all astrea. My LFS recommended 10 snail's but to his surprise this is all the snail's they had he said they will have more next week. I think 10 seemed like too much so we will see how these 5 do.

I wanted to seed some coralline, got this rock for free. The guy that helped me said there is a little bit on here. I'm thinking most of the purple is artificial and there are a few spots of real coralline on it. Is that correct?

Here is the 3rd thing. An MP10WQD. Will add another after the move. Figured I'd spread out the purchase a little.

You think the flow is too high or too low?

I powered it on and turned it up to like 25-30%. Haven't messed with it other than that. I need to read up on the different modes. Right now it is on whatever mode it powers on as initially. Lol.

Snails! cool. Flow looks good, you could go higher if you want no worries there. Only time you have too much flow is when water is splashing out of the tank or your softies and lps corals close up. Fish love flow, most will swim towards the surge of flow, they dig it.

I believe a bunch of people use reef crest mode but go ahead and play around with your new toy

Anything 50% or above seems too fast. It seems it pushes the nem to one side and seems to push the clowns away from the nem. I went ahead and set it for reef crest mode and max 50%. I'll play around with it more tomorrow.

Honestly thinking about it I may just get a RADION XR30W G4 PRO or maybe the AI Hydra 52. That way I can be within the recommended manufactures spread. The XR15W G4 Pro and the AI Hydra 32 are both only recommended for 18 x 18 and maximum spread of 24 x 24 according to BRS.

I'll have to think about it more but the AI would be easier to setup and the Radion would likely be more reliable. I've read a lot about the AI lights failing and AI denying warranty claims saying that the lights had excess water damage or something along those lines.

This way I can grow anything I wanted, even though I'd want to start with the easiest corals.

Stay active on sales forums here and on local reef sites for used Radions, I caught mines dirt cheap on Craigslist guy needed his tank out, a tank your size you can def get away with an xr15 also AI primes will do great in a tank that size

I already bought 2 x SBReefer Sbox 16" Extreme Wifi. If you go to page 4 post 6 and 7 from the top there are some pics. Had to get some lights quick since I had ordered a macro algea frag. I'll stay on the hunt though. I'm sure before long I will have more than one tank. Lol.

So I just got my first MP10WDQ and since we have the same tank, I'm wondering what your settings are?

Also when you said not to use the gasket you are talking about the rubber spacer right?

https://store2.ecotechmarine.com/collections/vortech-1/products/rubber-spacer-for-mp10

Just making sure.

MP10 see what works it took me a while to find what worked for my aquascape, I have a MP10 constant at 70% and a MP40 on reef crest mode at 50% the position was the tricky part for me lol
