How can R2R be better? It's been a while!

As far as picking the "PROS", well I am sure R2R knows who they are. Maybe they don't want to be bothered and I respect that. Again, just seems like they deserve the credit.
Actually, this is the main reason why you don't see more of it. How do you define someone who is a "pro"? If you see an "Expert" badge, with few exceptions, it designates someone who is recognized outside of R2R as an expert in the hobby. They most likely have given lectures at various trade shows.
There are so many ways to be successful in this hobby. Is is also true that two people who seem to do identical things can lead to dramatically different results. Would the one with the thriving SPS tank be a "pro" and the one who was struggling not be? We don't want to put ourselves in that position.

I remember one guy has an Electrical Guru title.
I think that would be me! But I'm an Electrical Gru. I have minions!

It's been a while so I wanted to know what R2R can do better?

What are we missing that could make our community better?

Software issues? Colors? Anything?

Thank you!
rewards for being active and more customazation to our profiles!

I won't stir the pot by suggesting selling R2R swag. Your liable to get way too many comments about swag, so I definitely won't suggest you start selling R2R swag. Although one can never have too much R2R swag. ;)

+1

Hope they are more credible than your reaction score..... :D

Behavior of new posts. I like to scroll down but new posts keep pushing everything down so you end up scrolling over the same posts over and over I use the Todays posts filter but that only helps so much. Just a minor annoiance though. Love the site

I understand the expert contributors and love the fact we know who they are and what they have accomplished. I think of a pro as how I think of myself with my job. I have been in my line of work for over 20 years and hold many licenses, achievements, etc. I consider myself a professional in my field. I would think of the same in reef keeping. You don't have to just be a pro with SPS. Just reef keeping in general. If you have been in the hobby for a while and have proven to keep a successful reef for years then I would think you would be a pro at it. If you have to define a pro then there could be an SPS Pro, LPS Pro, Lighting Pro, Flow Pro, etc.

Could even go as far as listing them in each section. If there is an "SPS Pro" then all of them could be listed in the SPS section.

I know who some of the "PRO's" are on here and I listen to everything they say when they chime in. I guess I view this hobby differently. I have been doing this for about 5 years now. Even though I am not a "PRO", I love discussing and helping out with things as much as possible. I guess that was the reputation from the other sites back in the day. The "PRO's" seemed that they didn't want to help out the little guys and harassed them all the time. I do not feel that with this site.

I just feel it would be cool for the "PRO's" to be acknowledged for their achievements.

Something little but, I think everyone should be allowed to edit and replace polls on there build threads. This would be a great way to keep people engaged within there own threads by asking questions and throwing a poll up instead of creating a new thread to get the same effect. Also, they won't be stuck with a poll on a question they asked a year ago + at the top of there build thread.

Yeah, that's the only tech issue on my wish list. It's not clear why the ability to edit your post should be limited to supporters.

Get rid of message count and reactions score. They are quite misleading stats. People often associate high post count and reaction score to knowledge. I lost count, no pun intended, on how many times I shook my head in disbilief when I read replies from some members with high post count and reaction score. They were flat out wrong multiple times. People will also dismiss feedback and info provided by someone that has low post count, even though these members may actually be gurus. There are members on here who have low post count, but who have more knowledge and know how than a lot of members with 1000s of posts. They are just not active, or at least dont respond often for various reasons, but when they do, I make sure I read carefully what they have to say.

Also I use the dark colored browser for viewing. Seems reef squad peoples names have a dark blue that I can’t even read. ~ Sorry, stole yours @Hemmdog

I can see what it says perfectly, @ScottR . It says, "Jerkface." Lol

yes jumping on this bandwagon. a store would be great, or just t shirt/sweat shirt/ hat's for a start

Nothing else needs to change R2R management even if some site navigations get updated.

what we are doing with cycling for the last eight months would’ve 10000% got me banned at any other forum except nano-reef.com they’re progressives too. Two places, two total places online allow such nonconformity

a mod would’ve stepped in and said: you cannot tell people to ignore nitrite and nitrate during a cycle, you are banned. But here, we are simply allowed to test claims made, with freedom.

r2r has managed the site where unfounded claims are dealt with in posts from powerful members who type responses, they don’t have to wield ban sticks to manage...accountability for posts comes other ways-attracting powerful reefers to naturally referee practices

strong but respectful disagreement is allowed here, the claims filter at work.

The site is growing massively we are getting ten new cycling tanks per day in the new tank forum can you imagine how big it’ll be in 2021 you will need new servers by then

Possibly an improved search function. A few weeks ago I tried searching for a 300+ page thread about Vibrant that I recalled seeing in the past that I wanted to read through before implementing Vibrant myself. Tried the search function on R2R but got so many other vibrant threads I ended up just googling it. I guess maybe options on sorting search criteria, like sorting by most recent, or sorting by most responded to or something.

Another, that might already be done but not that I've noticed, is a thread that could be subscribed to to alert you of sales from sponsors. Would be nice to skim through vendor sales and grab discounted items I already buy, or possibly to try something new like a different salt if it's on sale.
