How can R2R be better? It's been a while!

haven't been here long ,limit us addicts to 16 hrs a day, just kidding, only one as stated above the for sale ads in unanswered threads, happy reefing all

I feel marketplace could be improved or I am just not very good at figuring it out...lol
I find it difficult/impossible to just search for a list of items for sale in my state. Better would be able to search within "x" miles of certain zipcode. Also being able to filter out the "want to buy" from others.

That is a one click operation. Literally just click on the state badge in any post in the marketplace forum and you get a sorted list of every available ad for that state...

Don't they have that already, just not a badge but a title? I remember one guy has an Electrical Guru title. I guess it could be done with badges. That would be better but the only problem is that we have numerous guys on here that are experts and have super successful tanks but they have exactly opposite approaches to getting there. I am not sure how you would decide which one is the expert and if both are then people would be getting different answers to certain questions. Another problem with badges and PM's is that the person might not want to log in every morning and find 50 PM's that they need to answer.

That is kinda my point. Anyone can change their title to whatever they want which doesn't really prove creditably. Also, I agree it doesn't need to be where they get blown up with PM's and bothered.

Maybe it shouldn't be "EXPERT" and instead it should be a "PRO" badge. I will give an example. Reef Central used to be the forum where it seemed all the Pro's where. They had tank of the month which would showcase their tanks and really show off their skill level. I used to, and still do just scroll through the tank of the month pages dreaming and inspiring to get to their levels. Many of the pros over there were there for over 20 years. I see some of them on R2R and they continue to join to this day. I have come across a couple users that have a couple messages to their name and it appears that they either aren't that involved or possibly not that experienced. Then I find out they have been reefing forever and have full SPS tanks.

As far as picking the "PROS", well I am sure R2R knows who they are. Maybe they don't want to be bothered and I respect that. Again, just seems like they deserve the credit.

The video issue for me is not with the uploading but the playing. On my Windows computer, no problem. On Apple devices, no luck for some videos. I can get vids to work if they are uploaded to YouTube first then linked into the site but that is cumbersome.

I brought this up several months ago... It seemed to have a lot of support... seriously though we need more EMOJIS

This might seem odd but I would like to see an "EXPERT" badge. I will be the first to say this would NOT at all be for someone like me. I know there are article contributor, etc badges but it would be nice to see an "EXPERT" badge. This would be someone that has proven themselves over the many years that they know their stuff when it comes to reefing.

We all don't know who the experts are but I am sure the mods at R2R know.

I think it is a misconception that someone with a lot of posts/reaction count might seem as an expert but in fact they just like to post a lot... :) Sometimes this isnt the case though like Dana, Randy, etc. The funny thing is most "EXPERTS" I have seem on R2R have very low messages and reaction counts. This might have people that do not know them to overlook them. My thing is I would love to turn to the experts for guidance, communicate, and PM them for help if possible. I just don't want the experts to go unnoticed on a great forum like R2R. They are celebrities in this hobby and it kinda seems like a waste you know....unless they don't want the extra attention. Lol

If this was a possibility then it would cool if you clicked on their expert badge and then it went to a page dedicated to their success and tanks, etc.
We have them! ;)

I click on the State and nothing happens... No sort or anything. tried with Explorer and Firefox

It's been a while so I wanted to know what R2R can do better?

What are we missing that could make our community better?

Software issues? Colors? Anything?

Thank you!
Make videos viewable on iPhone and Apple computers please.

Also I use the dark colored browser for viewing. Seems reef squad peoples names have a dark blue that I can’t even read. ~ Sorry, stole yours @Hemmdog

First of all, your “atta boy” award for a terrific site!

Second, kudos for the site behavior guidelines.

Search for information on this site can be tough because the information is typically buried in the thread of comments. The signal to noise ratio is low. I have no idea how to filter the noise but it would be tremendous, especially in the cases where the “answer“ continues to evolve. Experts do this well, but maybe there is some inexpensive AI tool to help.

Improve quick search function (e.g. easier to sort posts by date etc)
Less emails

I agree, I have also noticed that a lot of forums have started to switch over to the standard Apple pack of emoji's. I am not a fan because Apple clearly stayed away from some of the ones that are classics and might bring up ownership issues.

I miss these and so many others:
