Can you take a picture of the rest of the plumbing that connects to that drain pipe? It might help the plumbing gurus with a plan.

It sounds like it's going full-siphon, then flushing. Kind of like a toilet ... which can't be a lot of fun in the middle of the night! And it looks like what's called a "Durso" standpipe - to me, anyway.

Sometimes if you can throttle the return pump back so that it doesn't ever reach that full-siphon point, that'll help quiet it down quite a bit.

That "reefsquad" hashtag calls in the cavalry, LOL. I'm not a super equipment pro - though I am building a system with durso returns as I type this (It's not easy, typing and gluing at the same time!), but there are folks out there who _are_ complete pros with plumbing, and they heard that call . . .

The drain inside the sock is about 4 inches from the water so gurgling shouldn't be comming from there. I mean I have 2 larger systems that are very quite. I just got this yesterday threw it together and very loud

Yea my other systems are straight pipes with a filter and bobber on the tops. I just threw this together pretty quick to grt the fish back in it. I'll get new plumbing here soon and put a valve on it. Try to quite it down.

Yea I'm gonna try to go to home Depot tomorrow and get a valve to cut it down a little. It is pumping it pretty fast

Drill the hole on top with the air tube bigger. I think I made mine from factory 1/4" to 5/16" and added a valve on the air tube and it's completely silent now. And can add as much flow as I'd like.

Yes mine did that exact same thing drill the hole bigger. If your afraid that you'll mess it up just have a couple of those elbows on hand. But you can't mess up just make the top hole bigger

Nope. Didn't help me at all. I had to slow down the flow going into the sump from the one side that was "flushing" by reducing the size of the pipe coming from that stand pipe into the sump. That worked for me.
