How do people get crystal clear water

The yellow tinge of water is from dissolved onganics and phenols which carbon makes quick work of. Also water changes with RODI factors in

Rox .8 didnt remove any color from a bucket of tank water. However ozone made it look like ro water. Check that link i sent.

I am curious, whenever you see pics of great reef tanks the water is crystal clear. I seem to always have something tiny floating around. I use 2x 4" socks on my return as im sure 99% of people do. I havent used charcoal or my uv filter in a while but even when i had both online the water looked the same. I have a 75gal with a curve 7 skimmer so im probably oversized in my skimming.

Are these people changing their filter socks everyday? Using a real high micron filter to trap more?

I converted a clear whole house filter to a DE filtration system. Filters down to. 05 micron. I feed heavy so clean every 2 weeks. 2 of 32 and counting

Ive never thought about turning off the flow lol. Carbon definitely for the win. I'm a purigen fan as well. I think the tanks glass helps too. I've always had regular tanks with standard glass. Clean Low iron or star fire make a difference in my opinion.

I changed sumps, reorganized everything under the tank including adding an apex, just havent reinstalled the uv or charcoal yet

I haven't used it yet but some say Vibrant keeps their tank clear along with some type of mechanical filtration.

Healthy reefs usually have some particulate matter floating around. Pods and fish poo are good food for corals. As mentioned above you can turn off powerheads for pics.
Use caution when polishing your water. I bleached a some corals running ozone. Water was crystal clear. Fish looked like they were floating in air but not good for the corals.
Periodic carbon, mesh filter socks and uv is all I use now.

In my 27 years I’ve just started with some regular old chemipure. This has cleared my tank up nicely. No socks, and I have a large fuge with cheato.

I just run UV 24x7, no filter socks or carbon, as a rule. My water stays pretty clear.

My water became crystal clear when I started running a UV sterilizer. It was a huge noticeable difference. If I leave it off for a few days I can tell a difference. I also run a BRS carbon reactor but I did that before the sterilizer and never saw the water as clear. When I look through the side of my 6 foot tank you almost can’t tell there is water in there. It’s hard to tell if it has a reduction in parasites as I quarantine everything.
