That's not a magic fix ... I want the magic fix.
Rainbow Unicorn Extract. Dose 35ml daily for three weeks. 10ml Leprichon juice once only at water changes.
See my ebay store for details.

What type of sand are you using. That looks to be playsand and if it is you can use it but its a silica based sand so you will have diatoms and cayno issues for a while it will eventually go away but takes time.

No idea on magic cure. If you find out, let me know. However, my engineer goby stirs it up pretty good when she is in the mood. I do not recommend them though. Little terrors to any aquascaping. Although, I love mine. :)

agreed, can you confirm what type of sand you are using. That looks a little to sparkly for oolite sand. It could be silicates causing issues if you are using a non reef sand.

No...sand is about 6 or 7 years old....right off the beach...pure Florida Beach sand

It could be that your sand bed is showing its age. You can try to do the maintenance for the existing sand or start to slowly siphon out small sections of the sand and refill those areas with new sand over the next couple months and see if that helps.

ahh. its not aragonite crushed coral like live rock or live sand. In florida it should have a higher amount of it(white sand brought to you by coral crushed and eaten by fish, yes its fish poop) but is mostly ground sea shells and silica like most beaches. thats why the juice doesnt work. theres not enough porous places for the nitrifing bacteria to colonize. a refugium & sump w live rock and a vaccume im afraid. then unicorn extract will be most effective. also some of the old tank syndrome (bacterial)additives from DR t and others.

i will echo what most people have said, everytime you do a water change just syphon the junk off it, keeps my sand clean, on a side note i can beat anyones price on that unicorn extract if you want to give it a trial run, will come in a bottle that looks an awful lot like plain RODI water, but its the extract.... trust me ;):D

this opens a good topic.. what does everyone think the best type of sand to use is... I have figi pink live sand and it constantly needs cleaned with the syphon vac,... if not sand what are the pro's and cons of no sand for your experiences. Thanks in advance.
