how far are you willing to go for great deals on fish and corals

I drive for visits with the inlaws every few months, and they live 3 hours away. There's a huge lfs there I buy fish and corals from (including my flasher wrasse's). I'm not sure if I'd be comfortable transporting fish much further than that.

Going just for fish/coral and no other reason for the trip? Maybe an hour each way.

Several things factor in.
What’s your time worth?
Wear and tear on vehicle.
Fuel expenses.
VS
Road trip

Once you consider all the above then decide if it’s enough of a savings.

I driver 15 mins most of the time but could be 2 hours round trip if it's worth it. Now the being said, I am going to Orlando this weekend and WWC or TSA...... LOL

7-8 hrs. I live in the middle of no where. There is one reef store about 3hrs from me, but I figure if I go there I might as well go back to my former LFS and do my shopping there. Of course this does mean I have to stay the night but it is what it is.

From what I have been told, when we move to VA this Spring, the closest good fish/coral store will be in Lynchburg 62 miles away. Guess that's how far I'll drive. Maybe, to Richmond at approx 100 miles.

Definitely 3-4 hours and I have travel farther in the past.

Richmond has a huge reefing community. You should go that route.

Thanks, Silent. I checked out the Richmond Reefers site a few months ago and it doesn't appear to be very active. I have looked at a couple of their stores on-line that look positive.

I would only drive if I lost internet and had to go to Starbucks (Library is closer, but no coffee) to order online. So far I have not purchased any fish/corals from an LFS. I did give a fish away to local hobbyist...had to drive 2 miles to McD's parking lot.

Pet and Aquatic Warehouse is where I go a few times a year. Its worth the drive.

3+ hours one way. I have no "local" fish stores. There is a Petco about an hour and a half away...Otherwise the closest fish stores are 2-3 hours.

Man, that’s tough. Where do you live? If you don’t mind me asking.
