Hello, I’m 14 years old and currently in the process of setting up my first reef tank. This is the scape that me and my dad set up. I personally like tanks that are more open and since I plan on keeping mostly bottom dwelling and open water fish I feel that having less of an amount of live rock to hide in won’t be that big of a problem. I also don’t plan on keeping any corals that need really high intensity light, so I feel like corals can thrive not being super close to the top. I’m open to any negative feedback. Thanks in advance!

Thank you all! I plan on adding another wave maker to minimize detritus build up.

Looks nice! I like minimal scapes.
You may want to move the rock away from the back wall and sides. It helps keeping things clean.
The rocks are about a good 3” from the back wall. I will have a Jabeo SOW 4 on each side of the tank. Hopefully that will be enough to keep it clean. I don’t want to move the rock structures to be honest.

It is a very aesthetically pleasing aquascape! I especially like the right side. Great job!

3" around the sides for cleaning should be good I would imagine.

What size is the tank and what fish are you interested in keeping? :)

Well done! I love minimal aquascape. Mine is similar in being a bit lower and sparse. What corals do you want to keep? What fish or inverts (other than coral)? Welcome and I hope you enjoy this hobby. What a great thing to start so young!
Kudos to you.

I have two 13yr olds and cannot imagine one taking care of himself let alone an entire ecosystem of life.

Looks great, my first scape job looked like a wall, I fit everything together like a jigsaw puzzle and we all know how well that works with collecting detritus. And even after doing that I made the mistake of building it on top of the sand. Had an engineer goby. It dug under my mountain of rock. It collapsed. Breaking a heater and wiping out my tank.

Love how you set it up, gives plenty of room for growth, leathers, gorgonians will all look awesome.
