How is my first ever aquascape?

It is a very aesthetically pleasing aquascape! I especially like the right side. Great job!

3" around the sides for cleaning should be good I would imagine.

What size is the tank and what fish are you interested in keeping?

So sorry for the late reply. It’s sold as a 40 but I think it’s 37.4. My stock right now is an Ocellaris Clown pair, McCosckers Flasher wrasse, and Yellow Prawn Goby & Pistol Shrimp. I will definitely add more fish just not sure exactly which ones. Any suggestions?

Edit:
Forgot to mention inverts. Your basic snails and hermits, as well as a cleaner shrimp, a rock flower nem which will hopefully be a host to some sexy shrimp. Maybe some others but I’m not totally set yet.

Well done! I love minimal aquascape. Mine is similar in being a bit lower and sparse. What corals do you want to keep? What fish or inverts (other than coral)? Welcome and I hope you enjoy this hobby. What a great thing to start so young!

I have two 13yr olds and cannot imagine one taking care of himself let alone an entire ecosystem of life.

Sorry for the late reply. I plan on it being a softie/lps reef. I want lots of coral with movement like Euphyllia, Photosynthetic Gorgonians, Leathers, etc. For fish all I’m set on rn is a pair of Ocellaris Clownfish, a McCosckers Flahser Wrasse, and a Yellow Watchman Goby & Tiger Pistol Shrimp. I’m definitely going to be adding more fish but not exactly sure what yet. Any suggestions?

Thank you! I’m still I’m Jr. High so hopefully this reef tank will relieve some stress next year. I will pour my heart and soul into this tank so hopefully it turns out half as good as I’ve hyped it up to be. I didn’t expect to leave this thread with a compliment on my grammar, but I thank you for it lol.

There is enough space. I plan on using a scraper near the bottom since my tank is acrylic. I’m trying to be careful about even the tiniest of scratches.

Haha I've done this forever and I can taste and tell hahaha. Awesome man forewarning there can be some learning pains and not your fault pains but dont get discouraged!! One of my favorite hobbies to be in. Plus my kids love it!!!

Lots of room up front in the tank as well. Be sure to cycle a few fist-sized rocks as well. You have room for zoa or mushroom islands near the front glass.

Keep in mind that your rock, and the amount you keep, is what beneficial bacteria adheres too and having less rock leaves more open area yes, but decreases your rocks ability to “filter” your water and keep ammonia in check. You could consider adding a few more pieces of rock, but that really depends on the load you expect to place on your new biosphere.

I’m gonna have a HOB Filter and HOB Fuge. Hopefully they works to keep the ammonia level down. Also if that’s your tank, it looks spectacular. I Really want a tang myself but that will be in the future when I can provide the right environment for it to thrive in. And I don’t want the tang police to arrest me

Hello, I’m 14 years old and currently in the process of setting up my first reef tank. This is the scape that me and my dad set up. I personally like tanks that are more open and since I plan on keeping mostly bottom dwelling and open water fish I feel that having less of an amount of live rock to hide in won’t be that big of a problem. I also don’t plan on keeping any corals that need really high intensity light, so I feel like corals can thrive not being super close to the top. I’m open to any negative feedback. Thanks in advance!

I would try shifting some of the rocks around so they lock together a little bit more. It would look more cohesive, like just one rock rather than a several.

I really don’t wanna mess with the scape anymore than I already have. It is very stable, even though it doesn’t look like it. Thank you for the suggestions though, I will take them into consideration.
