How long does it take for a acan to start growing?

I guess it all depends on water.

Here is a pic taken of a new acan I won on Nov.16

And here is a pic I took in Dec. 17

So in 1 month, its grown about 6-7 heads

I think it depends on alot of factors, water chemistry, light, placement, etc. My acans didn't grow for months when I first got them, then after a long dip in iodine they started popping new heads weekly.

Also want to add that my Acans LOVE flow, and i mean LOVE IT!!!

They sit right underneath a Gyre fx250, and they are getting blasted with indirect flow

Yeah mine has a medium high flow where he is not blasted tho he’s right next to my paly

Tanks chemistry, lighting and available nutrients will play a roll and some just grow faster than others. You'll notice little tiny heads coming in under the large one. My advice, stop watching it grow

Not seeing 6-7 heads just 1?

I typically see the first few heads appear about a month after adding to my tank. Once one head appears, many others will. Then it takes a while after that as the acan has to create the skeleton to add more heads.

I agree with this. However, feed them lps pellets or something larger than reef roids.

I ran tests for about a month with reef roids and I used the technique they advise for goni feeding on all of my corals. It turns out most that I once believed loved it did not.

I then started feeding pellets to anything that accepts it. I noticed 3x faster growth once I did this. I think corals struggle to consume roids with how small it is. It's hard for them to grab onto and/or drop into their mouth.

We use Reef Frenzy soaked in Bio-Enhance, Zooplankton and phytoplankton. I haven't tried pellets yet. What brand are you using?

Coral Frenzy 1mm, I pellet feed heavy now that I’ve seen the results and they are cheaper than faune marin.

I filled this acan to the brim on accident one day learning how to feed pellets. A week later he pushed his first little dot head.

So I kept suffocating this guy with pellets and 1 week later he pushed 3 more heads

So I kept going and 2 weeks later the heads grew a lot and he started pushing more

Now he has about 11 total new heads everywhere and has started calcifying. I’ve only had him in the display for 3 months.
