Started with freshwater over 10 years ago and moved into reef keeping 6 years ago. I have kept going, but did have a few months without a tank a year ago. I have felt like quitting quite a few times with the frustrations but something keeps drawing me back. I am having that battle right now again!

There were no super models on the Mayflower. Are you sure you were there?

Of course there were. They were just covered up with hoop skirts and silly hats. Why do you think everyone followed them here?

I thought they fled England to escape laws against collecting tropical fish. I wonder how long back we can track fish keeping?

over 3000 years, Japanese emperors kept carp in man made ponds, thru selective breeding these became the Koi we see today
(and all other forms of goldfish on the market)
-some believe it may have been going on in south China for millions of years

when I was born my mother already had a fishtank, but I got my own tank in 1992 , started saltwater in 2001 and reef keeping in 2011

I had my first saltwater tank in 1976 as a kid. And what a failure that was by comparison to today. Still have books lying around describing exotic new ideas like protein skimming (using the uplift tubes of undergravel filters of course) and discussing live corals as a clause in a sentence describing tank decorations that said they were impossible to keep. I read these all voraciously and have been in and out of the hobby off and on since.

Isn't neet to look back at those and see how far the technology has come

First freshwater 1979, first saltwater 1992, first reef 2012

I have been in and out of the hobby since i was 13 when I got my first FOWLR tank. This was about 89. I would say I have been in the hobby for about 8 years all together. there was a lot i needed to know because back in 89 Wet Dry filtration was very new and bio balls were in. Now people will look at you with 4 heads if you asked how to setup a Wet Dry agian.
