How long to win the battle when using UV for dinos ?

So for dinos (at least the ostreopsis variety) you'll need to be able to push about 8x true tank turnover volume at the required exposure rate. That is 600 gph either closed loop to UV or in return line. Your UV can support it (I have he same for my RSR 170) but make sure your flow and set up are correct.

Probably should get a cheap microscope as there are many species of dinos but you know that already.

Saw results pretty quick once identified dinos, installed UV and had right flow rate. But I took my eye off the ball too early and reduced flow and they came back. At that point I used DinoX and UV (don't recommend that - wrecked my tank).

I thought you have to run UV at maximum 3 times tank volume. Lower the rate the better. More exposure to UV. Am I incorrect in this statement? I’m running my 26 gal AIO at 80 gph with a separate pump pulling from my display and returning into the display. This is the guidance from Mac’s Dino group on FB.

Every source i know of says it depends on the type of dino. Some dinos have armor, and for them slower is better....more contact time allows penetration through the armor. for non armored dino's, faster rate seems to be the better option. Taricha made a good ID on which is armored and which isnt. i cant remember off top of my head, but if it were me, i would just go slow to be on safe side. around 50-200gph or 3x tank turnover.
 
It has to do with reproduction rates. Ostreopsis can double every 20 min which is 8x an hour. Conditions can vary a bit. I have run at 6x estimated and been successful but I’ve also dropped just a bit below 8x and had them return. Slower reproduction rates would require less flow rate. This is also why it has to be true tank turnover and not sump recycling flow. After a couple months I was able to drop to normal 3-5x turnover with no Dino return. I’ve never stopped using UV in my return line and replace bulb per manufacturer’s recommended at 14 months

Actually the theca (armor) doesn't really provide protection against UV. Some of the most susceptible to UV are "armored".

Our problem dinos reproduce once per day or slower.

ahh ok i thought armor (theca) mattered. so is the recommendation still on the slower end of gph? like 200gph or less? or someone said 3x tank turnover?

There have been people who were previously running 600+ gph and not having success, who saw good results from lowering to ~200gph.
So yes.
