How long will my wrass bury him self?

I just bought a green chorus wrass that is super small. He is only an inch long if that. I acclimated him for 30 minutes and then I added him to the tank. I looked away for not even 30'secouds and he was gone. I checked around the tank and he didn't jump. How long do you think he will bury himself? I tried to feed and he wouldn't come out

This is very normal for a newly introduced wrasse. From what I've read they can hide for around a week or two. Sometimes they come out for a bit and you just don't notice. The last couple wrasse I've had, hide for about a week before I started to see it swim around.

Also if you have fish that pick on him, he will hide longer, more often.

My tank only has 2 other fish that are non-aggressive and small. I hope he comes out as soon as possible

He/she got scaaaaaared, that's why after QT a acclimation box is handy and he can observe his/her new home and his/her buddies in there before you release him/her.

I want a QT but I don't have the space or money (even though they aren't expensive). I am only 13 so it is kind of my parents call

en. Hey Baby Ray, this is normal. I have mine for 3 years and every night he or she dives in the sand in the night until in the afternoon when its food time. This is a normal behavior. After while it will come out more often.

When I added my melanurus wrasse, there was a puff of sand, and he was not seen for about a week. When he's ready, he'll come out.

Glad to have such a young fellow who into this hobby more than just having a awesome reef.
Breeding fish is always the next step in this hobby and wish more young men will do that.

I really want to breed a pair of black ice clowns. They have always been some of my favorite but I can't afford them
I do have a snowflake clown that I love. His name is Dum Dum.

I saw on some websites that he will get up to 7 inches!!!!! Is that true?
I also saw where they sometimes peck at corals and that is a concern considering I have a reef. I do feed every day though so I hope it will not be a problem.

Like he said My melanarus is in my frag tank with a bowl of sand and he comes out whenever he pleases lol sometimes I see him everyday sometimes he doesn't show up for a week or so, that's just something they do.

It's possible that one day he can go after your small shrimp.
Remember there are reef save wrasses and non reef save wrasses.

I think if I feed him well he wouldn't bother my sexy shrimp. I have found many other cases of people keeping juvenile green coris wrasses with sexy shrimp and they did not even look at them. I am going to take that risk.

I bought a wrasse last night and no joke 1 minute after I let him go he was gone, I just read though the thread and see this is normal( hiding in the sand)I was going nuts thinking he jumped out , I even moved everything in my tank around to try to find him. I hope he comes out soon.

You've raised another important point with wrasses....they are jumpers. So either have a high canopy (that's what I have), or a screen top, to keep the guys from carpet surfing.
