Ammo (0,05) and No2 (undetectable) under control; Phosphates 0,05 after using some anti foss, were @ 0,1; nitrates 5mg with tropic marine test and something cosmic, around 70mg/l with salifert. Still haven't been able to wrap my head around that one. That's actually why i added an ATS, considering nitrates filter strongly.

I guess the live rock / sand in the display is also doing stuff. And technically my little gobies which act like vacuum cleaners are also doing stuff I guess... But truthfully, just the skimmer.

75g display (about 73g total volume) with a skimmer and eight gallon (actual volume) refugium. Phosphate are typically under .02 and nitrates are usually undetectable on a Salifert kit. I started dosing potassium nitrate for a while to maintain 5ppm but didn't notice a difference and stopped doing it.

Yes, in the sense of carbon dosing, it is the same as direct addition of vinegar to the tank (with different pH effects).

This is a cool thread and its nice to see what the common things are that we are doing. Seems we all have at least 3-4 in common.
I am planning on skimming, Carbon in a bag, filter socks, and chaeto with some rock in the sump too.

I use filter socks, skimmer, chaeto, and GAC.

I've never considered carbon dosing to be nutrient removal. I've looked at it as nutrient modification to allow other methods to remove it more effectively. I have done it in the past but am not currently doing it.

My 90gal. It's only 3 month old. 6 small fishes by now, no rush at all, but next week I definitely will add a heavy new load, not even corals yet. But I plan my nutrients export well ahead if I needed, based on if I might need to use it.
In this order, is how my filtration system runs and will run if Need to add more nutrients export.
1- First of all, live rocks and sand in DT, lots less rocks than the rule of thumb. And about 2" of sand overall.
2- One filter sock
3- in the same chamber a protein skimmer this one do more aeration than export at this point.
4- next chamber a refugium at this moment empty. Will be chaeto and maybe miracle mud in containers for easy exchange.
5- on the following baffel filter Floss just to keep the chaeto from passing out and a Marine Pure plate from my previous tank since day one.
6- a manifold from the return pump with an UV sterilizer 9w running 24/7 with very low flow thru it. A 150 Little Fishes reactor for carbon, connected but not in use. A Donovan Nitrate Destroyer (DND), plugged but not in use unless I needed in the near future, if the refugium can't handle the load one's I set the refugium.
No water changes since setup, only ATO, and all my parameter are in check and rock steady.
As I mentioned before, I have no rush to seek a fully stocked tank. My main goal is to keep a low maintenance and steady mature system. So far, it's going as it should.
