Skimmer, extra rock in the sump, refugium with mangroves, calurpa,and chaeto. Carbon and GFO mixed in a reactor. Vinegar in my kalk, and a small weekly water change.

Steady ph, temp and lighting schedule seems to be key for me also.
I only listed some of my livestock as they consume algae and in my opinion help keep phosphates down by doing so.

- Algae through growing whatever algae it grows
- Clams/oysters as secondary water scrubber
- No skimmer/no water changes for me
- Unlit sump support more filter feeders and sponges

Wow. What diversity in maintenance.

My 65 gallon system: skimmer, refugium with chaeto, chemipure, live rocks, weekly 5 gallon water change with siphoning sand and blowing out rockwork

My 14 gallon system: filter floss, carbon (going to switch to chemipure), weekly 5 gallon water changes

Would love to go water change-less on the "big" tank... need to look into that...

100 gal tank + sump + refugium: Nitrate stays 1-3ppm (usually closer to 3), phosphate 0.02-0.05 (usually 0.03).

Haha. What a nice plan you have beforehand. Do share how it goes with DND. You might have to cure and establish your live rocks first, otherwise they will out compete each other and risk your cycling process.

Thanks Donovan! Yes, I'll go slow and add things as needs and things progress. I'm in no rush and I'll probably enjoy the tank very much with just live rock, hitchhikers and some other inverts in it.

LOL. Lucky me my LFS is selling live rocks properly cured by mother nature. I remember putting up everything in one day with two clown fish swimming the next day. Instantly cycled!

But I wonder why my nitrates are 160!
