how many of you sps guys got nems???

i miss the whole bta. and clown thing i experienced with my first tank where the clowns feed the nem silver sides and sleep in it at night etc....
i really want to get one again but i have been debating since i just a saw post on another forum im on and the guy just lost lost his a bta to a mp40 and it wiped the tank out!!!! it was sad man no corals that i know of and he has a bunch of high end sps but his fish all went south including his breeding pair of cardinals and numerous tangs....anyone out there succesfully keep nems in a sps tank??? i hate to wipe out my collection since i have some very expensive pieces rite now is it worth the risk????????????

i have a sebae nem in my SPS/LPS tank ... i do not run powerheads. my flow consists of a dart (3600gph) powered closed loop manifold and return lines. i also have a DSB in the tank.

sebae nems are known for not moving as much as others. may be something to look into. mine has stayed in the same spot from day one.

Do like I did and set up some clown tanks with anemones!

I started of my tank as a zoa and lps and slowly moved into sps. During that time my anemone settled down in one place.

For that transition period you will have to monitor the anemone. They some times get into the overflow box as well.

Well I know he won't get into my overflow I have very small teeth on my comb that feeds the coast to coast overflow there 1/8" with with 1/8" gaps between not even my little snails Cant make it threw.. Purposely designed it this way.. rev I would love to but the wife ain't gonna have it...

I have a 280 mixed reef with some fairly mature sps colonies. I have a red bubble tip anemone that has been in the tank for about two years. It has moved twice and split once and has been in the same place now for almost a year. I keep covers over my powerheads and overflows.

Knock on wood - so far, so good

Ya I could I mean I could even put it in the sump since I got such a big one with nothing in it but a skimmer and return pump.... I think I'm just gonna have to pull the trigger and see what happens as of rite now I have plenty of room for it to roam and find a home without problems since all I got is frags... Also got a rtba that is owed to me from a good friend... His split like a year ago and he gave me it to me but I never got around to picking it up, the one time I tried it was attached to a rock with his good sps so we didn't bother but he finally got it out and it currently sits in his frag tank waiting my arrival...

I have a rbta in my sps tank with my breeding pair of gsm clowns with no issues. They do move around at first but when they settle in they stay put. Minw has not moved in over a year. I did have a big one get stuck in my powerhead and get torn up but it hardly whiped out my tank? I found the water all cloudy and the nem stuck and torn apart. I did a 20% water change and was all set.The nem is the only loss I had from it..

i have a 180 and have rock work that seperate the nem's.

once they move to the barbottom or side, i usually trade it away.

IMO you have to set up the anemone first, let it find its 'happy' place and then start adding SPS.
My nem was the fist thing in my tank with my clown pair.

Then she moved and now hasnt for almost a year.

I farm mini carpets and they can do some damage, I find them nestled under corals on frag plugs all the time 2ft from there container, and they damage the frag there on.

I also kept a large RBTA in my 210 sps tank, I had to remove it after a year. He was in the same place the whole time then one day started to cruise around leaving a path of destruction along the way.

go for a haddons carpet or a sebea or a long tentacle.

They are sand dwellers and will bury there foot and stay put in the sand.

I got some real nice chalices in the sand I'm worried about thou..
hmm.. I'm wandering if because my tank is 2 depths if I could keep him over on the deep side where I don't have many corals and not a ton of flow it's almost ideal condtions for one... I guess all I could do is try...

Either way your going to have to do some moving around.

mine is about the size of a dinner plate when its fully opened up, i just have to keep things farther away from it. youll just need to watch how far it expands and know where your limits are. keep in mind that when looking at or buying a sebae ... it should be brown with purple tips, not white with purple tips.

I have a giant LTA that is in my sps tank. It will some be moving to my old refugium section of my sump. It is just not worth it to me anymore. The thing hasn't moved in three years but you never know when it will. I don't want a white path through my sps tank.
