how many of you sps guys got nems???

i have a 180 g rr tank which is sps but i have this big *** rbta is like one feet by one feet is a pain in the *** i cant even put anything around it

I had a rbta in my sps tank for well over a year without moving out of it's spot. The issue I had was the babies that split ends up everywhere in the tank. So I ended up getting rid of them b/c I didnt have room to setup a second tank.

I have a full blow sps tank with 3 breeding pair of clowns...2 pairs in my main system and a pair in my refugium...also my refugium has housed over 70 Occelaris for over a year now!

I have had problems with clones roaming too.

I have kept a large rbta, a pair of clowns and a buch of hairy mushrooms in a 20 gallon high for 4 years now. That is one way to solve the nem itch with a small tank.

My current solution in my mostly SPS tank is this carpet " leather" anemone. :). Also known as a sacrophyton. :) It is awesome to watch the clowns host in it.

i had a huge toadstool in my big tank and the clowns just never took.. they liked the sand bed more lol.... i agree with the long tips and bta they look sweet waving around in the flow but im just not sure if the risk is worth it.. thats the meaning behind the thread.... i guess if it didnt work out there not that hard to remove or catch that is lol...;)

I agree. Luckily my clowns like the leather. It looks as good as the rbtas with the clowns other than the color. I am just setting up my 210 and the leather is in there now. I mention to everyone that sees it that I may get rid of the leather and they all say not to.

The 210 is an upgrade from a 46 that was mostly lps and softies. Ther are three rbtas in that tank now. As much as I want to move at least one to the SPS tank, I can't risk it because every coral in that tank is worth $$. I'll just have to be satisfied with the leather and my 20 gallon nem tank once the 46 is gets taken down.

you might want to look at a carpet. I like my carpets much better than my bta because they move around a lot less for me. Plus the carpets like the sand and sps tend to be higher in the tank so there is less stinging issues than with BTA at least in my case.

had a bunch of RBTA's move around my old 100, lost a bunch of SPS/ stung a bunch of polyps to death

Same experience here... I finally gave up on them... they seem to just make paths of destruction in my tanks. I also had a RBTA, stayed in place for 4 years.... then one day decided to make a run of the tank. Only killed one coral that day but never would stay in place after that. I recommend a seperate tank for them (keep them and soft corals), that way nothing seems to be harmed by them. Just my 2 shillings.

i still am debating most likely i wont be doing it, the more i think about it....i spend way to much on corals to have a nem take away my pride....ive actually been getting some high end acros and such and i would prolly leave the hobby if a free nem wiped my tank out.....

Mine never moved. It just continued to get bigger and bigger. As it did, it would specifically stretch MORE in the direction of the nearest coral. Once it killed that one (or I moved it in time) it would stretch towards the next nearest coral. I swear it could chemically smell the nearby corals. Eventually I removed it...at 12" across, it was too big for my 18" wide tank

I had one tha became two, then at one point 8. Never lost a single coral to them (except a punk Hydnophora frag). My mothes only roamed after the split, but usually to a spot under the rock, then back to within a few inches of where they were before the split. The babies roamed for a while, but didn't seem very aggressive while on the move. They would walk over SPS colonies with only minimal signs that they had done so. Mine were all GBTA's, but I've had an RBTA that roamed a bit more (not in an SPS tank), but it never hurt my acans. They love to give themselves buzz cuts, though. Any ph within reach is a candidate. I only ever lost one due to extended buzz cuts (the RBTA-didn't get to it in time to let it pull itself out of the mesh).

I have a large blue Haddoni carpet and a large rbta in a 125g.The carpet was one of the first additions to the tank when it walked from the center to one end of the tank I built a rock wall to keep it in place. The rbta stays put at the other end.
