How many tangs can I Quarantine in same tank

I have a 110 gallon tank that I want to get a small purple, blue hippo, and white tail tang for but my quarantine tank is only 20gallons and everyone says to add tangs at the same time is the 20gallons too small to have all 3 in at the same time and if so how should I go about adding all 3?

I have no way of knowing that. Your fish introduction schedule is up to you. Some say to introduce simular fish all at once while others say to introduce them based on size or aggression. This is a choice that you will need to make.

If you choose to put them in your tank and want to introduce them all at the same time then you would need 3 quarantine systems to have it be a true quarantine.

If you don't want to setup 3 separate quarantine systems then I would choose to introduce them 1 at a time after a proper quarantine.

If you put 3 fish in one quarantine system then you will be contaminating the other 2 fish if one is not healthy. You would be risking all 3 instead of just 1.

I would recommend doing one at a time. I've been doing this for 1 year, so take this recommendation with that in mind.

For more detail, I just added a hippo, sailfin, purple, and whitetail tang to my tank (very similar to yours). I had a 40 gallon quarantine tank. The purple and hippo were in the lfs for a few months, they looked great, so I added those directly into display. After a month with the sailfin and whitetail in quarantine, the hippo was showing ich... so I removed the sailfin and whitetail, and moved the hippo to quarantine. I would not add more than 2 tangs to a 40 gallon tank based on how much room they needed.

The whole process was stressful, and eventually, I didn't add the tangs at the same time anyways, which is what I was attempting to do. I would say if you have a quarantine tank for each fish - in your case 3 - that is the ideal approach to add them at the same time.

However, being that you have 1 tank, adding them 1 at a time is going to be better for your fish and the display rather than trying to add them all at once.

I understand why you would want to quarantine separately but because everything I’ve seen on tangs says to add at the same time I was confused about how to do that with quarantine but 20 gallons seems way too small anyway I guess I will just do individual and try to add the bigger or more aggressive last

Yeah I think one at a time is going to be the best because 3 separate QT tanks is not going to happen for me especially because these are going to be my last fish I was also thinking because they are different I should be okay like if I wanted a purple and a yellow I would make sure to add at the same time. I definitely should have done a 40 for a QT but it’s too late now

48" 110 might still be a little on the small side for the purple/blue in the long run. Tolmini would be fine in there.

If you are talking about copper/prazi QT, you can do multiple fish at once. Makes it much harder to adjust to the needs of a single fish though... However, if it was 20g I would do them individually.

Yeah that is the only reason I was thinking it might be okay because my LFS has had multiple in a small tank too but it just doesn’t feel right to me to pack all 3 in a 20gallon especially during a stressful time for them. I’m thinking one at a time is the move and if I’m having problems with aggression I can try to remove the more established one for a week or so and reintroduce and make sure they are well fed

Yeah I decided to do individual and I’m planning on getting a bigger tank probably in a year or so otherwise I wouldn’t get the blue
