How many tangs can I Quarantine in same tank

It really depends on the size of the tangs when going thru QT. If they are all around 2.5-3"s then you can QT 3 plus in a 20, I have done it. Just make sure you have plenty of Nori rubber banded to PVC. In a 40B I know several extremely respected members that QT'd 5+. Just make sure you have plenty of 2" PVC fittings in the QT tank to allow everyone to have a means to find some area to relax.

IME most Tangs are very demanding/sensitive fish that need LARGE tanks to prosper, and the love affair might end when they have seemingly nonstop problems in too small a tank. Esp ones that truly need a lot of room, like blues and sailfins. Ive seen very few Blue tangs over the years that didn't develop serious HLLE or die quickly when in a sub-200 tank.

I recently had a whitetail I rescued from a local club members 500g tank leak that developed serious HLLE in a 20g quarantine tank over the course of 2 weeks, and never recovered

Granted, he was full size already...

My current tang is 1 of 2 in a 6 ft system 200 gallons. He hangs out with the clown most of the day anyways rather than swimming the full 6 ft. Tang police calm down.

now the tomini tang i have does use the full tank.

I am waiting to get all 3 as small as I can and that’s exactly what I was going to do if I had to have all 3 in QT at the same time was get multiple pvc pipe for hiding spots

Thanks for the back up I wasn’t too worried anyway because I am going to get all 3 as small as I can and plan on getting a bigger tank in the future

Totally agree with adding all tangs at one time. I have 6 in my 225 gal tank. I added my Tomini tang, that I had beforehand to the tank and also QT'd my Achilles and added it a bit down the road. Then I made arrangements with @tsmaquatics so the other 4 would arrive at the same time.

If I can find all 3 super small at the same time I can try with multiple pipes for them to hide in and then if I am having problems I can set up another 20 if needed worst case scenario I just don’t want to have to set up another QT tank if I don’t have to because these will be my last fish for a while I should’ve got a 40 from the start. Lesson learned

Super small/baby tangs (esp blues!) also have a very poor survival rate in general. I wouldn't get anything under 2-3"

Not trying to scare you away from Tangs, just being real with you that they are in general a moderately challenging fish to keep healthy long term...

If it was me, id start with just the Tolmini Tang, QT and introduce him for now, and then maybe down the road look into adding another.

No need to be confused, we got you covered.

I agree with the tang police to a bit, and yet, I have also went against what they said. I currently have a Tomini tang, Purple tang, D. Sailfin tang, Gem tang, True Blonde Naso tang, and a Achilles tang in my 225 gal tank.

I will likely have to rehome 2 of my tangs, but, I have already made arrangements to do so.
