Hi all,
My friend followed my footsteps and got an IM 30 Long AIO and loves wrasses... he plans on getting two flasher wrasses to join his Possum wrasse.... do you guys think this Is ok? I thought it was fine so long as he got little wrasses and added them at the same time.

thanks!

30 Gallon Tank Dimensions36 x 12 x 16inches91.4 x 30.5 x 40.6cm

30 gallon volume in cm3 = 113180.62cm3

the following math is not corrected for actual fish size, it is all assuming the fish are a rectangular prism. which is not true, but makes for much easier math. its also in cm because it seemed easier.

flasher wrasse max size of 7.62cm, lets say 2cm tall and wide, so displacement of 30.48cm

you could fit 3713.27 flasher wrasses in a 30 gallon tank

6 line wrasse max size of 10cm, lets say 2cm tall and wide, so displacement of 40cm3
you could fit 2829.52 6 line wrasses in a 30 gallon tank

assuming you wanted almost no water and swimming room, no rocks, and no sand. if you wanted them to live a long and healthy life youre probably fine with your initial plan.

hope this helps :)

OMG thanks sm. You’ve inspired me, I’ll tell him to get a thousand wrasses, maybe 2 if he’s got enough money

If it's a 3 foot tank, a couple flashers of different species and a possum will be fine. If the tank isn't at least that long, the flashers might run out of room.

could he push for more than 2 flashers with the possum?
Possibly. It will depend on what species he picks. Another flasher might work. Another possibility would be the smallest fairies, like Lubbock's or yellow fin.

I have a 40 gallon 2.5 foot long with 3 flashers (forgive me, I use centimeters and meters in everyday life and probably got stuff mixed up at some point). Blue flasher, yellowfin flasher and mccoskeri. Purely based on my experience I wouldn't recommend more than 2. My blue flasher terrorizes the tank 2 or 3 times a day. He'll get all fired up and flashes at everything, which completely stresses out the other wrasses. They'll hide in a corner for the 15 minute long display of the blue flasher.

Other than that they coexist quite peacefully. I'm not sure if it's really the 0.5 foot difference that's causing this, or if my blue flasher is just a mean little bugger.

Are the same size? Were they added at the same time?

I’ll have to check in. I’ve pushed him away from McCoskers because of bad PE, I’ll list them later today :)

As long as you stay on top of the water changes, it should be fine, right?

You could email Hunter, but since he's gone from here the news will be the same. That tank is not suitable long-term for any wrasse other than something like a pinkstreak or a pygmy variant (tanaka / banded possum).

Mccoskeri first (11 months ago), blue flasher (9 months ago) second and yellowfin a little over a month ago. All the same size. I had a yellowfin fairy before, which dominated the tank. The blue flasher was the most timid one, always hiding. Removed the fairy wrasse, everything was fine, mccoskeri became dominant but didn't terrorize the tank. Added the yellowfin flasher and suddenly the blue flasher took over control.

Perhaps with time he'll become more peaceful.

I’ve heard this too. Some people say not to put any flashers in the tank, some say it’s fine. I acknowledge your side as I will not get any bigger flasher wrasse or any fairy wrasses.
